I am *in love* with this game. I honestly don't know why there aren't more Tamagotchi-type clones out there, especially an idler like this. When I do find pet care games like this, I feel like they're always missing something; they need you to pay attention to them at all times, or there aren't enough variants to collect, or there aren't any mini games to play to keep yourself and your pet entertained -- just something every time. Nanomon feels like the first one to actually understand why Tamagotchi was popular and fun and implement those things, while also building upon things that maybe Tamagotchi wasn't able to do, like journeying to new areas and exploring, combat, mail, mods, friend battles, and more. I've been playing for around 10-14 hours at this point and I'm constantly finding new things in the game. It's simple enough to be an ilder, but also interesting enough to steal your attention away from your work. Realistically, the first time you load it up you might want to be doing nothing else for at least a couple hours. There's an entire guidebook in the game that you can load up to tell you about the game's ins & outs. The guidebook will start only partially filled out. As you do more in the game and discover more places, mini-games, traits, etc. your guidebook will update with the relevant information. So, for example, there is a mini game where you can train your Nanomon's fighting stat. Once you've seen that mini game for the first time it will now appear in your guidebook to explain how the game works to you. Or another example; the traits section of your guidebook will update every time your Nanomon gains or loses a trait, so you always know what is relevant to your current pet. This blew me away when I first saw it; I can't believe how cool this feature is!! I wish every game to ever release would do something like this. It's a fantastic way to ensure a player is not getting spoiled on things they've yet to see in game, while also ensuring there is nothing confusing for the player in regards to *too much* information. This is a feature that I can not overstate how cool it is. Ontop of that, this game fully supports mods! All you need to do is go to the Steam Workshop for the game and subscribe to whatever mod you want and then enable it in the game's mod manager (don't worry, it explains all this to you in the guidebook). An indie game supporting mods from the very first day of release is amazing, and honestly I think this game is perfect for it! More Nanomons, types, areas, mini games?! The possibilities make me extremely excited. The map exploration is also amazing! The map refreshes and randomizes every day, so you can keep exploring, reaping rewards, and leveling up your Nanomon. Ontop of that, there are varying difficulty levels for each area of the map, so you can plan what spots to hit depending on your Nanomon's level BUT you aren't restricted so you can go to more dangerous areas to reap big rewards even when you're weak, it might just take longer. There are also random things you can come across in the world that incentive exploration to certain parts of the map, like Seekers, pizza delivery, and even buried treasure. There are also time-based things that will happen in game. So, for example again, a holiday like Halloween in real life will more than likely trigger special events to happen in game. This is teased in the guidebook, but (as the game has yet to release) I can't say exactly what these events will be or their quality. However, I do think it's something very ambitious for an indie and a feature I'm personally really excited for. (I also think it's another great selling point for the game.) My single issue with this game is a minor spoiler so I'm going to spoiler text it. It's nothing crazy, but I know some people may be saddened to hear so.... yeah.
When your Nanomon dies it just kind of... disappears forever. I know they aren't around for long, and I know it's so you can see more of the Nanomon types, but it made me so sad lol.. Maybe if there could be some kind of graveyard? Or like a kind of 'digital space' or something where we could see all our past Nanomons just kinda hanging out? I'm sure someone could mod it into the game so I'm not too worried about it, but I really do think it would make the time spent with Nanomons feel a little better if they didn't just evaporate and that's it. Maybe even just a small photo album section in the guidebook could even work. Just a way to remember them.
Seriously though, that's a very small issue in the grand scheme of things; I'm just a very emotional lady and I really love these little critters. Overall I adore this game. I've tried out quite a few of these creature collector games before and none of them have ever hit this good. I'm honestly lucky this program is stuck to my PC and isn't on my phone; I would ignore everyone and everything other than my Nanomon and become the worst person ever. Please buy this game. Please make mods for it. Please make it so successful they can't HELP but add more content for years to come - I'm **begging you**! Anyway yeah enjoy; it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome and I'm so happy!!! <3 Thank you devs and best of luck on release! I've been a huge fan of tamagotchi, digimon, and virtual pets in general for about 20 years... For something that is meant to sit on the side of your window and keep passive cute company, nanomon is way too needy, demands constant attention, and constantly asks you to play little minigames... Which I could close an eye for, but my little guy died after I went afk for *one hour* (I left it with full stats, safe at home). If it is meant to require your full attention constantly, then it really makes no sense for it to play in such a small window. Sad! I've been looking forward to this game for a really long time

I really fell in love with this game, and I tend to get attached to my silly virtual pets. Unfortunately, no matter what you do, your pet will eventually die. For me, this feels unmotivating and makes the experience a bit pointless. That said, I absolutely love the gameplay, design, and creativity behind the game. If they ever add a feature that allows pets to live longer through good care, I’d happily update this review. But as it stands now, it’s ultimately unsatisfying. I understand the concept that your Nanomon is meant to die, so that you can collect them all, but I feel like there are better ways to approach this. As it is, the system makes the game less interesting once you’ve collected them all, since even your favorite pet will eventually die again, no matter how good you care for it.
