A short Russian visual novel following Slava, who agrees to appear in a video contest after being approached online, only to discover his classmates are behind the project. The story explores identity and acceptance through a lighthearted romance narrative with supernatural elements. Best suited for players seeking a brief, character-driven story with minimal branching and don't mind imperfect localization.

Dangerous! Too Sweet, is a Russian made innocent BL visual novel. It's a cute story about being yourself and still being able to find your place in life. It's a fairly short, almost linear game.

Positives:

Plot: “Sweet City” is a popular brand of sweets that features cute supernatural characters. They became such a hit that the company has decided to make a video featuring them. Not only that, they have opened a competition that anyone can join. The rules are simple; make an interesting video using their Sweet City brand and characters for a chance to win some big prizes!

The main character, Slava, really wants to be a part of the competition. Knowing he won't be able to make a movie on his own, checks online for people in his area who are also in need of a team member. He finds a group in need of an actress. That's no problem for Slava as he has a hobby of dressing up as a woman anyway. The surprise comes in the form of the other two members turning out to be his school classmates.

Characters: This title features two very different love interests that happen to be twins; Vova and Kostya.

Vova is an introvert. He's imaginative and is the lead writer for the trios movie entry. He's more than happy to avoid people and instead spend hours writing in his trusty notepad, which he carries everywhere with him. He's friendly enough when he needs to be. Get him talking about something he really enjoys, movies for example, and he turns into a passionate speech giver.

Kostya, on the other hand, is far more flamboyant. He's the director and an actor for the movie. He loves attention and is often surrounded by people. He thinks very highly of himself; often saying how he's a genius. Overly friendly and flirtatious. He takes great pride in making himself look good. Kostya is great at art and photography, taking both quite seriously.

Slava only moved to the area with his mother a few months ago and is still finding it hard to make any friends. He enjoys dressing up in women's clothes. His mother is very supportive of this. She helps him make adjustments to his clothing and even taught him how to sew. He's an actress in the movie and is in charge of making the costumes. Slava is also very good with children after spending a lot of time looking after them in his old residence.

Random kids like to pop up from time to time during some of the school scenes. This is when Slava's personality really shines.

Art: There are only sprites for the three main characters despite a few repeat performances from others. This might sound like a non-positive thing, but limiting the number of character sprites appears to have given the available ones more focus. They have a wide variety of facial expressions as well and different clothing depending if they are in school or not.

There are roughly eight CGs throughout the game; some with one or more varieties. Each is beautifully created and does a wonderful job of bringing the current, adorable scene to life further. Finishing a route rewards you with a more special CG that you can find in the gallery.

Soundtrack: The background music varies from calming and peaceful to energetic and upbeat depending on the scene. The soundtrack was selected well. It never felt intrusive or distracted from the reading, instead, it really added to the atmosphere.

Simple 100% achievements: No fuss. No extra planning out or guides are needed. Just play the game twice for both of its routes and job done. Achievement hunters will surely be happy.

Easy routes: It's a very simple process to get your desired ending. The options are straightforward; Vova or Kostya answers. There is one route per boy so no bad endings. This means you won't need a guide to complete the game.

Adult humour: You know those situations that are quite innocent but can sound rather precarious to an outsider? Yeah, this game has a few of those. They are fun but didn't exactly have me fooled. The VN is too virtuous for that, sadly.

Cross dressing: I was interested to find, that despite Slava enjoying dressing up as a woman was a main unique point to this VN, it wasn't an unnecessary focus. No additional fanfare was put into it that it felt very natural and the scenes were smooth. All the characters were open-minded and accepting, some even offering flattering compliments. I just thought it was quite nice that it wasn't something that was unnaturally pushed in my face.

Neutral:

Romance: I wouldn't have really called this a romance novel. There is a tiny bit at the end but overall, I'd say it was more about building friendships with the twins. Most of the romance comes in the form of a typical otome style. They notice their heart beats faster. They think about that person a lot more than they used to. They cant take their eyes off of each other while in the same room, but they have no idea why. It's all very much fluff. Given that these characters are in high school and appear fairly young, I guess that makes sense for this title but again, not much really happens until the last 10% of the game.

Translation: I feel like the translation definitely needs another proofread. It's far from understandable but the minor issues are constant. It does become a little tiresome before the end. Having said that, I have been unfortunate enough to have experienced a lot worse.

Negatives:

Replayability: There really isn't that much replay value from Dangerous! Too Sweet. I stated earlier that the routes are easy because there are only two, and the option are completely obvious. Although that is a positive thing for reaching the end, it leaves much to be desired in the replayability department. Once you have finished the game once, most of it can be skipped through, Finish it for a second time, and there really isn't a need to play it again at all except for enjoyment. No additional routes. No tidbits of dialogue. Nothing.

I didn't get a single cavity playing this game though, thus, it can't have been "too sweet"

Overall:

Dangerous! Too Sweet barely took me four hours to complete but it was generally a cute experience. However, it's unlikely to make it into my top favourites. The rough translation took away from the otherwise enjoyable experience somewhat. Having said that, it is reasonably priced (I might even say it's a little under-priced) and aesthetically pleasing. It gets a thumbs up from me!

I enjoyed my time reading this. It was simple (I wouldn't say in a bad way) and I would say that it was a nice way to kill a few hours since I had a few dollars lying around in my steam wallet anyway.
The only real negative thing that I can say about the game was that the translation was a little bit rough, but I was still able to read and understand it with little to no issue.
If you don't mind that the translation could use a bit more work I would say that it is worth the price tag.
