Sweet Collector is an adorably cute puzzle game in which you are tasked to arrange a set of given shapes on a grid, with the condition that in the end no spot remains uncovered and no piece is left behind. It's basically the same gameplay as Cats Organized Neatly / Dogs Organized Neatly (which belong to a different developer), but this time the cats and dogs are replaced with mouth watering cakes and sweets.

Each new piece is presented with a short and hilarious text at the beginning of the level when you first encounter it, and is then unlocked into a collection that can be accessed from the main menu. All the drawings are very sweet and the pieces all have unique animations while being idle, or when they are picked up / dropped.

You don't have to be a genius to complete the game, but I'd say that the difficulty ramps up steeply starting as low as level 12-13. As you progress through the game, the grid becomes bigger, the pieces also grow in size and take weirder, longer or bulkier shapes, making their placement a more complex process. Finding a solution is most of the time a matter of trial and error - after all, it’s a “find-the-developer’s-solution” kind of game, and there’s close to 0 logic involved. Also, the grids are not designed in a way that lets you eliminate most of the incorrect placement possibilities.

The game runs and plays fairly well, but if I were to complain about something that would be the interface. When you start a level, the pieces are scattered around the grid, and for smaller resolutions it can happen that one piece is positioned by default too far out and thus not displayed on the screen any more, making it inaccessible. The grid also has quite a big area in which the pieces can’t be dropped, which makes removing pieces from the board sometimes uncomfortable - you have to try dropping them several times until you find a working spot.

Despite the charming art, this is not a kids game - the writing is full of funny puns and references that younger gamers probably would not understand. Also in terms of difficulty / complexity, the gameplay could prove to be a challenge for younger audiences.

With its 100 levels, it has enough content to keep you occupied for a few hours. If you get stuck, there is no hint to mark the incorrectly placed pieces, but the levels are skippable.

sweet collector is basically sweets organized neatly instead of dogs or cats. different developer and of course none of them came up with the original idea, they just literally put different faces on the pieces you have to place on a grid to cover the whole thing.

the game launched with 100 levels and more are coming periodically for free. all you do is pick pieces up with left click, rotate with right click whether they're held or not (mouse wheel should also work), then place them wherever. no keyboard controls or hotkeys at all, no need for undo, levels can be reset. I wouldn't mind if right-clicking a placed sweet removed it from the board instantly to make room for something else without moving everything around one by one.

there's a brief level complete animation without a pop-up, have to click the arrow in the corner to move on, it's a bit weird. the same button acts as unlimited level skip until the level is solved. chapters and levels within are unlocked one by one otherwise, but it'd be more convenient if every puzzle within a chapter became available at once. dots on the level select screen can't be clicked for instant chapter access, have to switch between them one by one. the dots themselves are off by one at the beginning, which got fixed when I started doing the levels, but I regularly got a blank screen there, so it's a tiny bit buggy.

no mechanics or variety to speak of, the first level is the same as the rest. you do unlock various sweets as you play, that and clicking them in the collection section shows their name and a funny/corny description. didn't expect a def leppard reference, to be honest. tons of languages are supported, but based on a few spot checks puns get lost in translation or the translation itself is just horrible, typos and missing punctuation too. it's only a few clicks to google translate whatever, but quantity over quality is rarely a good approach. and if they paid someone to do it, they were robbed.

pleasant presentation, lots of desserts to make you hungry and get upset when you pick them up. on-screen level numbers are always nice and settings (only in the main menu) include separate volume sliders, night mode (let's call it late afternoon) and windowed mode with a resizable window. sadly, windowed mode is buggy as well. resizing it and changing back to full screen doesn't restore actual full screen resolution and there are no resolution options to remedy the problem. restarting the game doesn't exactly fix the issue either.

the gameplay aspect is fine if you like this puzzle type (I don't have the patience for it), but for something this simple it's too buggy to recommend until fixed.

A cheerful and happy challenging tangram game for puzzle-lovers

The tangram pieces are little pieces of animated cake. The animations and sounds are very cute and colourful.
I like that fact that I can turn of the music. I prefer to play the puzzles only with sounds.
The game starts with easy introduction levels, but soon the levels gets very challenging, As more and more new tangram-shapes are added to the puzzle on a grid with obstacles on which you cannot place your tangram-pieces.
Fortunately you can skip levels if you are stuck and continue to the next game level. I got stuck at level 9!

This game comes in a lot of different languages. I suggest to play the game in English. Otherwise you will miss out of the funny and humorous introductions of each new animated cake piece to the game-play.
I tried to play the game in Dutch (my native language), but the Dutch texts does not always make any sense.
The game makers are aware of this and are working on it. (see steam-discussion section of the game)

update: 13 february 2022 - Dutch language is update , which makes the game also enjoyable to play in Dutch
