MAELSTROM LEGACY: The Tesla Mystery

This game is absolutely charming!

You can tell how much love and thoughtfulness was put into the art design and world building of this game! All the side characters are interesting and stylised in unique ways! I love the details put into everything in the game!

There's very obviously a lot of inspiration and influence from Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, but the way the game puts twists on the common elements from those series is fun and engaging!

I'm in love with the main character and his dog companion and am finding the puzzles overall to be enjoyable! Some of them do start off quiet easy, but they become more challenging as the game progresses. Also, there are the occasional puzzle that feels very obtuse and had me puzzled not because of difficulty but because of understanding the prompt/task. However, this is not atypical for this genre of game and I think its a me problem. But I digress.

My only minor issue I have with the main game is I notice the English grammar is a bit off/inaccurate at times. I'm unsure if this is intentional as I notice it for the main character and the dog, but if its not I can see little areas where some revision of the text would have helped out. This does not take away from understanding the characters or the plot, just a few odd moments where I noticed it throughout.

Overall this game I believe is definitely worth its price point, is a delight to play and a cozy puzzling experience overall!

p.s. Also love how we fight for Justice that Nikola Tesla deserves!!!

Update after completing game: My review still stands! Puzzles definitely get trickier as you go along!

This game is absolutely charming and as a fan of Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright it is really nice to see games like this. There is clearly heart and creativity put into this and I would absolutely recommend it if not for a lack of polish. I realise that the game is translated to English and some of the issues come from that but there are some puzzles that have multiple answers that aren't included or are outright wrong, misleading in unintentional ways or aren't quite clear enough in explanation. This doesn't include most of the puzzles, but has been frequent enough to affect the overall experience.

That being said I still think this is a nice game and will keep track of updates going forward. Problems aside I appreciate the game overall and hope for more like it.

I've never played Professor Layton of The Great Ace Attorney, but I feel that this could be remembered among them as a wonderful VN/Puzzle Game. I haven't played all that much, but from what I've seen, the art is great, the story is engaging, and the music is top-notch (I'm biased though since I know one of the guys that helped with music). You can tell that the developers put a lot of love and effort into this game, I look forward to seeing how it progresses.
