This is the closest to Animation vs Animator you'll ever get all in a steam app.

Honestly, this game is cute, but there are better desktop pet games out there.

The developer recently added more slots for pets which is a welcome addition because now you can have four saved. I picked the black cat and named it after my lil void I have at home. The cat isn't customizable though so I had to deal with the bright yellow eyes. There's not a whole lot to do but my lil guy is cute crawling on the sides of my monitor. It worked fine with my dual monitor setup, no bugs, however he only crawled around the one monitor which is standard.

My lil guy communicates with me through cat memes. Sometimes a meme will pop up saying something like PLAY WITH ME NAO and I play with him but there's no needs bar to know when he's had enough. I have to manually exit the popup box whenever I decide I want it gone.

I tried playing with him through the minigames but this is by far the worst part. There's a basketball game where he just dunks a basketball into hoops but I can't interact in any way - I can't move the hoop or take the ball from him. So I tried the Pong game next (literally just called that) and the ball crawled so slowly across my monitor that I couldn't help but laugh. Once the ball finally hit one side of the screen, it sped up and I thought we were ready to go. However, as we kept hitting it back and forth, the ball actually slowed down again. If you've ever played Pong, you know that's the opposite of what's supposed to happen.

This game has a low price and cute art so I hesitate to give it the thumbs down and I hope the developer makes this a better experience down the line. I hope they add achievements as that would give me a lot of encouragement to keep it running. I'll keep an eye on it but for now I feel there's better desktop pet type games on Steam.

💜 This game was gifted to Catizens Curations for review.

Desktop Pet Project is, as it's name implies, a classic desktop pet program where you can interact with your pc and do other things while cute little cats roam your screen. You can have up to four different pets on your screen at the same time, though it would be fun if there was no limit. I am glad that the dev decided to increase the limit to four atleast!

The phone, or more commonly known as the main menu, is a window you can access by right clicking the pet on the screen. From there you are able to do various things such as summon different items, play minigames, change the settings, etc. etc. It is a cool little way of adding a menu to the game, but there isn't much to do either way.

At it's current stage, the game seems to be a little lacking in most departments. It doesn't have any sound effects for the pet; it doesn't make any sounds while it roams, eats or plays. There is a few different ways you can interact with the pet, such as a sleeping pillow, a basket ball and some different kinds of foods, definitely some that cats don't eat, which ruins the immersion for me.

The cat can summon windows of memes on your screen to let you know what it wants, though the images on them don't always make sense and aren't always clear on what it needs are. I kind of wished there would have been a needs window in the menu somewhere, which would have indicated what the pet wants, but no such luck for me. There is other few kinds of things you can do with your pet, but I don't really feel like writing about them too much.

Sadly due to all these things, I feel like the game lacks too much interactivity and longevity, and I feel like I can't really recommend the game. I wish steam had a middle way of voting for the game, as I feel like that would sum up my feelings on it currently the best. I do hope the developers will keep making the game better and including updates for it, and if that does happen I will keep you guys updated.
