Return to a hometown that hasn’t changed the way it should have. A psychological visual novel focused on atmosphere, relationships, and a reality that slowly refuses to stay still. Can you uncover the truth before it consumes you?

Well, that was fun.
When I saw the gun, I knew it would be used at some point. And surprisingly, you can summon your inner American and exact some vigilante justice on whoever you think is the rat. I honestly didn't think the game would let me actually do it.
That said, while I managed to sniff out the rat on my first playthrough, I only got a cliff notes understanding of what exactly went down. There's some room for multiple playthroughs here.
Also, if you accidently get yourself killed early, like me, you get sent back to the start of the chapter. That is very good, since Immersive Mode only lets you load from autosaves.
Speaking of which, the VN lets you do an Ironman run or a run with saving and loading. A single run is short enough for you to complete it in one sitting, so I advise Immersive Mode unless you're following a guide.
I say the game is worth a buy. It feels more like a $5 game than an $8, but it's still cheaper than a real life train ticket (ha!).
Discloure: I tested this game prior to its release on two occasions, in early 2025 and 2026. I would say I have a fairly significant emotional investment in it, and I received the full game for free.
I've read a few VNs, not a whole lot, but enough that I feel like I have a good grasp on the genre. Whispering Memories isn't the longest VN out there, but I've read shorter. WM manages to make up for its relatively short length with a decent amount of replay value, if you're not a one-and-done sort of person. I'd recommend Immersive Mode for a first playthrough, but that's preference really.
The artwork is solid, has a more unique look that helps it stand out from a lot of other VNs that look very similar in terms of background and character designs.
I like the game's vibe and setting, even if it feels like the world could have been developed further... but this can hopefully be addressed in the future. The characters are somewhat hit-or-miss, but mostly hit for me. The main three vary, with my favorites in descending order being Luna>Aiden>Evelyn. I think they could have all used a little bit more time to grow, but even at their weakest they still fulfill their roles in the story and remain likeable. The side characters (not that there are very many) definitely feel underdeveloped to me. A likely result of there simply not being enough time.
Besides a couple of odd choices for a few pieces of the soundtrack, I have to say that the music is very good - especially for a first timer. I really don't have much negative to say about it, and multiple pieces stuck with me. Especially the tracks at the end, incredibly well done.
At first I wasn't too sure about the story as I went through it. I wanted to see and hear more, to try to figure things out. The ending made it all come together for me, and I'm not ashamed to admit I shed a tear or three. I would even go so far as to call the ending absolute cinema.
Ultimately, I would recommend this game to anyone wanting to experience a mystery story that's on the shorter side, regardless of whatever VN experience they may or may not have. I'm proud to see the game come this far.
