Moorhuhn Winter Edition revives the classic arcade shooter with snowy themed 90-second rounds where you track moving targets, hunt for hidden bonuses, and chain reactions for higher scores while dodging obstacles that drain points. The modernized re-release adds widescreen support and leaderboards, making it accessible to both nostalgic players returning to the series and newcomers seeking straightforward, skill-based shooting action.

I genuinely love this game. It is very close to my heart and brings back countless childhood memories. First of all, I would like to sincerely thank the developers and creators for bringing Moorhuhn Winter Edition to Steam. I am truly grateful for the effort, care, and time invested in reviving this classic on a modern platform.

I have already spent time with the new version, and the modernization is clearly noticeable. Please consider this review primarily as constructive feedback addressed to the developers, written with respect and appreciation for your work. The original 2001 version evokes an incredible level of nostalgia, and while the new release attempts to smooth and modernize many elements, some changes unfortunately move the experience away from what made the original so special.

As a software developer with a background in software design and programming, I strongly believe that many of these issues could be addressed through better configurability, customization options, and small but important design adjustments.

## Visuals, UI & Customization ##

- Fonts
Unfortunately, the current fonts are very unattractive and feel generic. They do not fit the game’s atmosphere at all.
The original 2001 version used a beautiful, fancy italic font that perfectly matched the wintery, playful style of the game.
Please consider:
1. Replacing the current fonts with a style faithful to the original
2. Or adding a “Retro” font option
3. Or making fonts and font styles fully customizable

- Timer & Score Size
The timer is very small in the top-left corner, making it easy to miss. Players are focused on shooting chickens, not watching the timer.
The size and visibility of both the timer and the score should be adjustable.

- Crosshair & Ammo Indicator
The new crosshair does not look good and feels out of place. It should be customizable or allow switching to a retro appearance.
The circular “remaining ammo” indicator around the crosshair is extremely distracting and did not exist in the original game. This must be optional and fully disableable.

## Camera & Gameplay Feel ##

- Camera Shake / Recoil
The camera shake or recoil effect when shooting is extremely disturbing. The original 2001 version did not have this at all.
The constant screen movement on every shot significantly hurts the gameplay experience and can even cause discomfort.
This effect must be optional and fully disableable.

- Chicken Falling Speed
Chickens fall extremely slowly after being shot, almost like slow motion. This is one of the most immersion-breaking issues.
In the original version, chickens fell much faster and more naturally.

This issue is especially noticeable:
1. For chickens in medium distance
2. At long distances

In the current version, shooting a distant chicken can result in a fall time of up to 10 seconds, which feels completely unnatural.
In the original game, this was roughly 3–4 seconds at most.
Please adjust the physics or animation speed to better match the original experience.

## Missing or Broken Classic Features (Bugs) ##

- Incomplete Buildings
The houses on the far left side of the town appear incomplete and empty.

- Bird Feeder “Dodge” Easter Egg
After shooting the hidden “dodge” bird under the bird feeder (after the secret easter egg), no points are awarded.
In the original game, this action rewarded 333 points, which is missing here.

- Airplane Bonus Logic
In the original version:
1. Shooting down the airplane deducted 25 points
2. But also rewarded bonus seconds added to the timer

In the current version:
1. The 25 points are deducted
2. But no bonus time is awarded

This breaks the original risk–reward mechanic and should be restored.

## End-of-Game UX (Very Important) ##

One of the most problematic issues is the end-of-game user experience.
1. When the timer runs out, the game transitions far too abruptly to the result screen.
2. If the player happens to click at the moment the game ends (especially where the “Play Again” button appears), a new game can start instantly without allowing the player to see their results.

This is extremely poor UX.

Additionally:
1. There is no transition, unlike in the original game.
2. The result screen appears instantly.
3. The music starts immediately and very loudly, almost like a jump scare.

Suggested solution:
1. Add a short transition when the timer reaches zero (as in the original).
2. Introduce a 3–5 second input lock, during which mouse clicks do not trigger any buttons.
3. Clearly communicate that the match has ended and give players time to process the result.
4. Smooth out the audio transition and lower the initial volume of the result screen music.

## Final Thoughts ##

This is my childhood favorite game. Since you have already brought it back to life, I kindly ask you to pay attention to these details and improve them. Please let us stay as faithful as possible to the original experience that so many players deeply love.

The game was released only about two weeks ago, and I truly hope the development team will continue working on it and addressing these concerns. I am genuinely grateful for the passion and effort invested into this project.

Once again, thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to play Moorhuhn Winter Edition on Steam. I am truly thankful that this classic is playable again on a modern platform.

The Winter Edition is possibly my favorite game from the Moorhuhn main series. I love the music, the graphics and the secrets. For this re-release they included widescreen and leaderboards, that's great (although also some unnecessary changes like a different crosshair). Totally recommended!
