GeckoShop tasks you with building a thriving reptile business by catching geckos across an island, upgrading your shop facilities, and deciding whether to sell your catches or keep them as companions. The core loop combines collection, resource management, and light exploration. However, the game is currently abandoned by its developer and plagued by game-breaking bugs that severely limit playability.

so is every single person who bought the first game going to get the second for free? since you abandoned it after only version 0.2, will we at least get refunds? are you even going to finish the new games? and why should anybody trust you to buy another early access game? im not sure if you are aware but early access is not just "hey buy my game" then make another, early access is only a thing to help give you feedbacka nd capital to invest and grow your company, which you seemingly did neither with, as your compaints about gecko shop 1 was that "you were in over your head" ok? then take some of the money that was invested into you, to hire people that actually know what they are doing, its not like you did a job and got paid for it, its as if you got paid to build me a new bathroom, you got paid full price up front, ripped my bathroom out, then left me with an unfinished bathroom and went on to offer your services to more people without ever finishing the bathroom or breaking the contract.
I'm willing to give indie devs a lot of grace and understanding but it's hard to trust they're going to come through with another game AND a sequel when they went radio silent for half a year due to being stressed and overworked.
The game is a fine concept, just buggy as hell, unfinished, and completely abandoned. Do not waste your money.
Hey!I'm really happy to announce that GeckoShop 1 is currently being fully rewritten from scratch. This time it's being rebuilt in C#, making the game much more performant, less prone to bugs, and easier to create mods for. We've been able to restore most of the files and are already deep into development.Side note: I'm not talking about the sequel, this will be an actual remake of the first GeckoShop. Both are separate projects, and both are now in development. The remake will not be a separate game, but will instead be released as a major update. This will allow us to continue supporting the game and release new updates and content. All known bugs from previous versions will be finally fixed, no more floors getting grabbed!Existing savefiles should be compatible with the new version, this is our goal.Owners of GeckoShop will still receive their Discount on the sequel through a "Complete-the-set Bundle".We've seen the frustration expressed by many players in the reviews and Steam community discussions, and I understand how things may have looked from the outside. We always had the best intentions for the community, and reading comments like those really hurts both us and GeckoShop's reputation going forward.I was always very active on Discord, but from now on I will also be posting regular updates on Steam to keep y'all informed about how development is progressing.A first playtest of the new version should be ready soon. Thanks for sticking around!-Rep
Hey everyone! We're so excited to finally share with you what we've been working on the last few months. The Demo is finally out, and can be played by everyone for free. You can even play with your friends!Geckoshop started as a small game for me to learn making and publishing games. And so i did! I learned a ton of cool stuff, and connected with many people that share the same interests.I launched the game and i was excited, and also not prepared for how many people would join in. The discord was flooded after the demo went live, and suddently there was a real community around my little game.Everything went really well, but the game also had problems. I spent more time fixing bugs than making the game, and over time it became clear that the foundation of the first GeckoShop was just not built well enough to support it long-term.So i decided to start fresh, instead of trying to glue it together forever.Built from the ground up, we made a sequel. We used this opportunity to add everything players asked for.For example, something many players wanted is the ability to merge two geckos to combine their looks, since this would open the door to so many new possibilities, this is now possible and one of the main features of the sequel. Many also didn't liked how the automation worked in the first game, it was missing control. So i went for another approach, and instead of relying on employees, you can now build entire factories, with all the freedom you could ask for. This is only a fracture of what changed and what's new. Here's a list we already posted in the GeckoShop 2 Steam Announcement: New Inventory System, instead of only being able to hold one item at a timeEach box has now a set of cosmetics, allowing for way more variation.Your collections are now cosmetics-based, some cosmetics and colors have lower chances. This also allows merging cosmetics, by breeding a male and a female gecko.GeckoShop 2 focuses a lot on automation, and factory building, but as an additional laye...
