Nano Neighbors is a social decoration game where you manage a character and unlock rooms by completing timed minigames for currency. While marketed as idle, progression requires active play rather than passive generation, and customization options are limited despite the cozy premise of keeping a companion visible while chatting with friends.
About this game
A cozy online incremental idle game you can play with your friends at the bottom of your screen. Customise, play mini games, earn & spend!

Not going to sugar coat it... it is NOT idle.. will change my review if things change in the game.
- To level the jobs you must play mini games and a few are annoying.
- You do not customize your nano character, males have blue eyes and females have weird demon fusia eyes..your hair stays the same color and all you can really change is your outfit a tiny bit, hair style, and that is about it..
Right now if all you want is a person walking around the bottom of your screen, this is for you. In terms of idle gains not so much and customization is extremely limited.
I'm sorry but where is the "idle game" part? The only thing you have to wait is time to play games again. Mini games that give you money to decorate your place. I didn't understand how to add new rooms. What I understood is that this is a social game. Your Nano will just be idling aka doing nothing not idle in the sense have passive income. In that sense it is a pure idle "game". Also I don't like to wait 5min to play again because seriously what else can I do in there if I don't have friends there?
On the other hand I played on the SteamDeck, it is playable. Not easy for the games but doable. I don't understand what is a good cooking for the sausage seriously I tried it all so I have 0 point in that game. The twitch game is the most fun for me.
All in all this is a decoration game, you unlock more decorations by playing games and your nano will move around (unproductively) while you work. You can also be social, I didn't fully explore that part, I think I saw invitation codes and stuff like that.
Anyway it will be a refund on my part, nice design but not enough gameplay and "numbers raising my dopamine" for me.
I really wanted to like this game/software so much. I'm a huge fan of such 'bottom of the screen' idle games. Once upon a time, I also had little Shimeji-ee guys running across my screen. I love the idea of just having a little guy hang out on my screen, and using it as an alternative hangout space for my friend group.
However, as other reviews pointed out, this is NOT an idle game. Any of the minigames you have to do are actively distracting. They refresh after short minutes, inviting you to play immediately. (And the little update dot on the games button won't go away?) The games are cute, but also not interesting enough that I would want to play them over and over again to make any progress. I have noticed that the furniture in your room sometimes gives you some extra coins, but I don't think that's enough to consider it passive income. And a lot of the room deco and clothes is locked behind making progress on the minigames, so you can't even ignore the games and just decorate.
The character creation is fairly limited too. The rooms either have very dark wallpaper or a very sci-fi spacey aesthetic. No rustic little cabin, no cute little greenhouse, no cozy little gamer home. The clothes range from hoodie (hoodie down) to hoodie (hoodie up) to hoodie (cute animal ears) and a single kimono. No tank tops, no cute dresses, no cozy scarfs, no fantasy clothes. There's a handful of hairstyles you can unlock via minigames and collected coins, but you can't change your haircolor. At all.
The lack of variety for a game that's all about customizing your little guy is really shocking.
The only thing this app has going for it is a cute pixel artstyle. It could be interesting with the twitch integration as an on-stream chatroom for subscribers, but outside of that, I really don't see a point in sticking with this.
The system itself has potential, but it needs a lot more work to make it interesting. More customization variety. More focused on making little hubs with your friends. I think it would be fun if you could design your own little pod, and then attach it to those of your friends and make a hub of connected capsules.
And for the love of everything, don't make the cosmetics locked behind minigame progression. Find something to make it more interesting as a little idle game. Make it more of a little productivity software that rewards you for focusing on whatever else you meant to do. A little virtual body doubling app. A little thing where you can collect more rewards co-op or gift friends special items to incentivize inviting more people. Just... do something more than it currently is.
Hello everyone! We’re excited to announce that an all-new Idle mode has been added to Nano Neighbors! As of right now, you can play either the original Nano Neighbors mode or the new Idle Mode that a lot of you have suggested. In the Original game mode, you’ll need to complete jobs to unlock all the items, earn money, and progress. While in Idle Mode, the pressure of getting a job is off! While jobs still provide random items, they won’t give you money. Instead, apartment decorations will grant more passive income, and item purchases are no longer tied to job level requirements. This new Idle Mode is for all of you who wanted a pure idle-only experience. We heard your comments and reviews and we hope that this new mode is exactly what you were after. And as always, thanks so much for all your suggestions, comments, and feedback. We’re making this game all for you, so keep them coming! Until next time,Your friends at Studio BitDot and UNIKAT Label
