The combat uses a three quarter view without locking me onto individual targets, which gives the battles a more open feeling. I can move freely, attack groups of enemies and use a collection of abilities instead of simply clicking on one target repeatedly. I enjoyed this because it makes the early fights feel more active than I expected from an MMORPG with such a strong idle and progression focus.
Character progression is built around learning techniques, improving my level and gradually becoming stronger. I can carry a set of combat abilities and use a companion to help during the main and side quests. I liked having that extra layer because the companion makes the character feel less isolated during solo content and gives the combat a little more personality.
The dungeon system gives me a reason to keep improving. Exploring different areas, fighting demons and building up my character creates a straightforward progression loop that works well for short sessions. The multiplayer side also includes cooperative play and player versus player activities, so there is a reasonable amount of room to move beyond the basic quest structure.
My biggest issue is that the game clearly feels like an Early Access project. Some systems are not especially polished, and the overall presentation can feel more functional than refined. The progression also leans heavily into continual character improvement, which means the experience can start to feel repetitive when I spend too much time repeating similar activities.
The language situation is another limitation for me. The game does not support English, so understanding the story and menus is much harder if I do not read Chinese. That is especially noticeable in an MMORPG where there are many systems and descriptions to understand, and it makes the experience less accessible than it could be.
Overall, Slays Demons in the DaTang is a decent fantasy MMORPG with a lot of systems packed into a free package. I liked the open combat, character abilities, companion system and dungeon focused progression, even though the Early Access state and language barrier hold it back. There is enough here to make the world interesting, but I would like to see the systems become more polished and varied as development continues.
