Interesting choice of visuals for an AGS game, I don't see many adventure games fully commit to a black&white aesthetic, although my favorite adventure game "Spooks" also went for 2 colors, also Prim very recently. The animations were actually very nice, and I like the progression of the character's model as the narrative develops, even having some color at the very end, presumably as the character experiences the "acceptance" and the fog is clearing.
I do think you telegraphed the ending a bit too much, the story wasn't bad overall, but it's almost like you explained it point by point, not giving me many opportunities to read between the lines, so the ending was very easy to see even early in the game. Especially in the afterlife where these characters are stuck, I felt a couple of them were very aware of exact details, perhaps that is something you could have danced around a little, show don't tell as they say, maybe if the other characters also didn't have a full picture and were lost just like you, not being fully aware of who they were either, and you could have let the player put it together.
There are no puzzles in the game, more like a linear 30 minutes point&click experience, just a nice journey if you have nothing better to do for the moment. I liked the variety of different scenes though, the lost soul wondering alone in the darkness, talking to a character in limbo, and traveling to your past to discover your memories.
(+) I liked the design for the locations and the animations, even though you only use 2 colors it feels like it has nice movement and detail. The character changing shape along with the narrative was a nice touch, and I liked the use of color at the very end.
(+) The story was okay, but like I said, I think maybe you telegraphed it too much, and I wish the dialogue was a bit more subtle, it feels like you explaining the story in a very straightforward way, point by point.
(+) Cool escapism vibes with the perspectives, good choice of music
- When you talk to some of the characters, it feels like they explain the narrative to you point by point, and there is not much for the reader to do. I think the world would feel more genuine if the other characters were just as lost as you were, and maybe if you danced around the exact details of the plot, I wish there was a little more nuance to the dialogue, perhaps if the characters were also having some "small talk", just reacting and observing the other character or describing how they feel, loosen up that dialogue a bit so it's not just details of the events.
Overall Thoughts: 6/10
I really liked some of the animations you did and various tricks with the scene composition, as well as the progression of the visuals like the character shape or the colors at the end. I think the characters had more potential, but I do feel the story came across a little rigid and telegraphed because you largely focusing on the details of the plot and not nuances of the characters.
