I have to declare right off the bat that DCFM isn't the sort of thing I would normally buy; the developer is well known to me though (although I still had to buy it with my own money!), so I decided to give it a go. I ended up really liking it, and I shall attempt to explain why...
DCFM is not a game in the normal sense, and I struggle to classify it.. it reminds me of the sort of thing you would find in an English pier arcade, sitting beside the grabber and penny cascade machines, blaring out its attract sounds. But unlike those, it has genuine use (and isn't designed to slowly rob you over the course of an hour!).
It's intended purpose (I think!) is to set up your own one-off games or tournaments, where the result can be used to decide important(!) real-life dilemmas, such as 'what takeaway should we buy' or 'do we watch this film, or start that box-set'. Set up the teams to be the choices and let lady luck decide!
This game really comes into its own when two or more interested parties actually have a strong preference for a particular outcome; imagine the girlfriend really wants to order a Hawaiian pizza, but (like any sane individual) you want pepperoni instead. Agree that the result is binding, and watch a two minute match play out. Because the game ebbs and flows like some demented (and it really IS mad... chickens for God's sake?) game of football (where some team comes back from 3-0 down at half time to win on penalties after extra time).. it adds real drama to the proceedings! Try it and see!
I also enjoy setting a really long match time and a 99 goal win threshold, and just 'have it on', and enjoy the sounds and the visuals.
Finally, turn Last Child Left FM on (one of the in-game audio options), and use it as a cool jukebox for the developer's music (I am a big fan of his particular brand of EDM, so I love this).
As I say, not the sort of Steam game I would normally buy, but I reckon its pretty awesome!
