Crusaders Quest: Hero Town is a desktop idle RPG where you gather heroes and gradually rebuild a town while the game runs in your taskbar. The core loop involves collecting heroes through gacha mechanics, upgrading them, and watching combat play out with visual flair on your screen. Longtime fans of the original mobile Crusaders Quest will find familiar systems here, though new players should expect RNG-heavy progression and limited endgame variety once the story concludes.

Took me awhile to actually complete this one due to RNG contents.
Compared to other similar genre (Taskbar/Desktop Biome) this one here is a lot closer to the mobile idle game, in fact, it's a PC remake port from a mobile game.

In short, if you enjoy a bit of gaming, and a pretty noisy/mess taskbar biome (characters running around casting magic and fighting)... this is your cup of tea. And you'll probably find "Battle On! Hero Academy" a lot more appealing as it has more features compared to this here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3841970/Battle_On_Hero_Academy/

If this look too simple to you and you wanted a more rpg-like experience.. you can try "Desktop Raid", "Task Bar Hero" or even "Tap Tap Loot".
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3122460/Desktop_Raid/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3678970/TBH_Task_Bar_Hero/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3959890/Tap_Tap_Loot/

If you'd rather enjoy a peaceful and more focused farming game experience, this might not be it, games like "Desk Garden", "My Taskbar Farm" might actually fit your taste better.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3575790/Desk_Garden/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3326530/My_Taskbar_Farm/

If you want a scale-able type or one that works on background like a wallpaper, you can try:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3196520/Island_Robot_Farm/

If you wanted a shop managing genre, then "Fluffy Onsen" or "Desktop Cat Cafe" is recommended.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3404470/Malteses_Fluffy_Onsen/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2978180/Desktop_Cat_Cafe/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3706590/Fluffy_Kitchen_Saga/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3691420/Tidehaven_Ale__Trade/

If you like town building genre, there's "Desktop Village", "Desktown", "Desktop Town", etc etc:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3848210/Desktown/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3997390/Emberlands_Desktop_Village/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3748960/Desktop_Town/

If you wanted a mix and match of these and that, the jack in all trade genre... then "Desk Paws" is probably what fits your taste:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3586060/Desk_Paws/

If you just want a collection of creatures/animals/characters and wanted minimal gaming experience, then "Tiny Pasture" or "Desktop Fishing" is recommended.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3167550/Tiny_Pasture/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3411730/Desktop_Fishing/

If you wanted a less screen space taking games with minimal gaming experience, you should try out "Cornerpond".
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3454590/Cornerpond/

If you wanted a desktop companion that could actually help out with your work with pomodoro timer and lo-fi music player... "Mini Cozy Room" is my recommendation.

Pure Nostalgia from coming back at this franchise. I felt like this game can be done right, with more heroes but there's time for to collect, collabs as well and yeah, Love this game ever since I was a kid. I hope for Crusade Quest 2, or not, still excellent!

EDIT: Based Dev, they have an upcoming update soon. I recommended it to play IF you're a long-time fan.
If you're a new to this, I'm not sure, it's up to you, if you like an idle game with cute art, then play it. Afterall, I like to support these small team to keep Crusader Quest alive!

I just finished the game and honestly, it’s a pretty good game. I had fun with the gameplay, especially collecting heroes and building them up.

But the ending felt way too short, and once you reach endgame, it gets repetitive fast. It would’ve been nice if there were more things to do, like different mobs to hunt or some kind of variation in the grind. Right now, after finishing it, there’s not much reason to keep playing.

I actually wanted to unlock all the heroes and complete the achievements, but the game doesn’t really support that. Some achievements expect you to play for weeks, even though the whole game only really lasts around 10–15 hours.

Compared to Loafing Town and Battle on Hero Academy, this one still feels a bit unpolished.

There’s definitely a lot of potential though. More heroes, more tents, maybe pets, more boss fights, or even wave-based content would make it way better. I’d honestly love to see more updates.

For now, I’d give it a 7/10.
