How's it going you filthy raccoons!It's been a little while since our introduction post... We'd hoped to give somewhat regular updates, though since this project is currently unfunded, it's being made in our spare time.But we're back here to give a little update on the development progress and some exciting (last minute) showcase news!New StuffTrashSince the prototype, players would get dirty money by hiring a raccoon to go out and bring some back. That's still the case at the moment, though we're experimenting with the player (and raccoons) scratching open trash to find the precious dirty money. We're leaning towards introducing trash deliveries which can be upgraded as the game progresses.Rooms & Creative DirectionStepping away from the liminal space of the prototype, we're looking at introducing rooms. For now there's only one room, though we'd love for players to expand their business by adding new rooms and organising them as they'd like. It also allows us to show a bit of the outside world and make it feel more alive.Visual upgrades are being made! Recently, we established a creative direction for the game feeling as though "a raccoon had a hand in making this". This won't only apply to the visuals and music, but also has an influence on gameplay.Washing ProgressA regular bit of feedback we've been getting was that washing machines felt too sluggish without knowing how much longer a wash left. So we've added progress bars onto washers, which we found also help to reflect that upgraded machines are actually that bit faster.TutorialSince there's a bit of a new direction with the room and trash, the tutorial got a rework. We're here to share upcoming changes and additions to the game as it's developed.Little Bit About UsWe're a small Australian-Belgian team and very much excited to make this game about raccoons doing a "crime".On the dev team we've got Josh (Code & SFX), Kevin (Game Design & Code), Ciaran (Music), and Reid (Art). Joining the mischief, we have the lovely help of Jasmine (Social Media & Marketing) and Denis (Marketing Strategy) ❤️New UpdatesDecorationsNow you can decorate your laundromat however you'd like ✨ We've moved away from the tile-based unlock system to a fully customisable laundromat where you can place your decorations freely.RaccoonsAll your raccoons are unique individuals; they come with their own names and can be levelled up individually 💪 Now, rather than each raccoon being locked in the job they were hired for, you can make them do whatever job you need.Raccoons are smarter, meaning they fall into the void less and can now be pet!PacingThe game felt slow, so we've sped everything up! Washing, fetching money, and overall raccoon speed has been increased to keep the money laundering going 💸Steam IntegrationSteam cloud saving and Steam achievements have been hooked up to feel more at home on Steam.OtherAdded a new snapping system for stacking items so they sit nice and snug 👏RemovedThe Auditor OwlThe Auditor Owl was a little too disruptive, so we've sent him back to the workshop and have some new fun ideas on the way to replace him.Queensland Games Festival RecapAfter our second time showcasing a game at the Queensland Games Festival, we were amazed to see how many people enjoyed playing Money Laundering Raccoon 🙏 It was wonderful to meet and chat with everyone who has been supporting us and to receive wonderful feedback!Massive thank you to the Queensland Games Festival for organising such an amazing event and allowing us to showcase alongside other local games.
