Before you decide to join the bandwagon and be one of the many members of this games community writing my review is unhelpful just because you like the game, or filling the comments with fallacies, please be sure to read the entire thing and try to find the bottom line. Thanks. Side

Now before this review gets riddled with "unhelpfuls" from people trying to suck up to the devs, take into consideration that I hardly ever give bad ratings. In this case, however, I felt like I needed to shed some light on the situation with gods and Idols. Feel free to scroll to the sub title which concerns you the most. I'll try to keep an open mind and give the game a fair chance. The most ridiculous thing has happened in the review section - either extreme positive bias or sudden put down negativity. I will strive to do neither of these things. To the people who say: "it's too early to write a review on this game" but still recommend it: wtf.
And to the people who write instant negative reviews just because they couldn't connect, also wtf.
This review will touch on a variety of factors affecting the game, ultimately being probably the first review that gives both sides.
Graphics look fairly decent, however extremely laggy. I have a pretty nice setup with around 16gb of ram and a nice connection, still only get about 7 fps in the game on default graphics settings. I only got a healthy 45 fps on lowest settings, so don't put too much stake into the beauty of the game.
Edit: at the time, server was full (around 200 people) and the above was true. now i joined with about 40 people online and half the game working, and got around 130 fps on lowest settings. it's a pretty hot game tbh, just like the devs <3 (nohomo)
Will be reevaluated when all features come back online
The current gameplay of Gods and Idols is unique at best. If you do somehow manage to get on to the single server , you will find yourself in the middle of a universe. If you manage to locate the tutorial on the bottom right of the screen corner of the screen, you are ready to get started on your ten minute journey. (where you will either finish the game or the server will crash for a few more days)
Now you will have to attempt to master the inconclusive controls to pick a galaxy to start your reign in. Once that's done, the incredibly helpful tutorial will tell you to select a star system, ending the tutorial with something along the lines of "to create a planet, click one of those dark lumps and then eliminate asteroids you don't want."
After an extensive amount of research, I found that the planet creation system was actually pretty interesting and was the higlight of the game. It's all downhill from here, folks.
So after my planet was created, you get to click on your planet and build buildings. yay. So I built all the buildings. Now what, ladies and gentlemen? After waiting the approximately 10 minutes it takes to make the buildings, I was told that that's it. All you can do as of right now. No meaning to any of the buildings yet. And then the server crashed. That was two days ago, and as of now it is still not back up. So all in all, this game is not yet ready to be published, and it's not just the "technical difficulties" they have been having.
Please note this is a controversial section, the only one backed by opinion and not fact. Don't read too much into it either way. Also, the discord server mentioned is not official (there isn't an official one) but it is the only one endorsed by the developers.
The face of Gods and Idols is quite hot asf. No, seroiously, do check them out on youtube.
So as many of you might have read, one of the reviews is directing everyone to join the discord server. Don't. Everyone sucks up to the devs like that teacher's pet back in middle school, in the hopes of gettnig that cherished rank of "Discord Admin", and one day maybe even "Game Admin".
If you would like to read a rather dull story about the cancerous admins, use the spoiler. If not, scroll along.
So once when the server went down, approximately 20 minutes after they released a patch to fix it, I pinged the devs in discord a couple times to let them know, because they did not appear to realize that the game was offline yet again. People told me to be patient and give the devs time, after all, the game is in "pre-alpha"! (see above, and another example of the race for adminship) I explained that the devs probably did not even know that the server was down. So about an hour later, a discord admin comes on asking about the reported troll. Soon after this a dev comes on and says: "Just to let everyone know, the server crashed!". Gee, thanks. Oh, and did I mention the discord admin banned me from the discord for "Trolling"?
If you have made it this far, you can probably tell that I refuse to reccomend this game to anyone in it's current state. unplayable, unfun (is that a word?) , and an unhospitable community to top it off, I have high doubts that the game will make it very far on the steam store, and will eventually become one of the many empty games sitting at the back of the free to play section sitting at around 25 players (at most). Gameplay is uninteresting and incomplete, admins are cancerous and it's a downright miracle if you do manage to connect. Not to say it doesn't have some potential, it's just not on the right track.
People, please don't resort yourselves to downloading this game. You will regret it.
tl;dr
Cannot recommend this game in its current state based on gameplay, technical problems and a variety of other factors.
Overall 3/10
I will stick with Gods and Idols for about a month, and if there is significant change I will change my review. Stay tuned!

YES, I'M AWARE IT'S EARLY ACCESS:
First I'd like to start by saying that publishing your game to the steam store and slapping the tag "pre alpha" on it is not an excuse for an unplayable game. To play Gods and Idols, you need to be constantly connected to the game servers. Unfortunately, the game servers are currently down 90% of the time for no apparent reason. Now, I wouldn't have a problem with this if it was even only occasional, but it's been constant since the game's release and the developers still haven't exactly found a solution.Graphics
