Street Takoyaki is a rather low-taxing tycoon simulator game by Hermit Hollow. You run a small takoyaki stand which you can take all over the city, while you work hard managing the business and avoiding unwanted attention! This game was inspired by Lemonade Tycoon, but I have unfortunately not played that one so my opinions may differ to those who have. The gameplay loop is very simple. In the menu between days is where you will do just about everything. You can buy permanent upgrades, such as to speed up cooking or increase the stand’s popularity and gain more customers. Early on, it only takes several successful runs to be able to buy everything available, and you will slowly unlock more with progress. You can run special events to help increase your reputation, or lose the attention of the Yakuza. Inventory is finite, so you also have to restock in the shop tab and make sure you have enough ingredients for a run. (You get an upgrade later that allows you to restock during the day, however!) There is no time limit on the game, so you’re not rushed to get x amount before a deadline. Instead, your “threat” are the Yakuza and police. As you sell on certain territories, you can get their attention. This is indicated by a risk bar on the location. The more busy a location is, the higher your queue can become. There is a threat tab in the menu between days, so you can check and manage these. Having a queue consistently busy will increase your stress level, another factor you have to manage - unfortunately, there is no stat bar to manage this other than your end-of-day report, so you’ll have to keep track and make sure you don’t get too stressed. I believe (unless I am missing some later game content), the only way to lower stress is to do some slow runs on low traffic maps. Reputation is also important, each successful day will grant you more rep. Make sure to track your recommended sale price too. I found if I went over it, I’d get very few customers. Depending on the weather, different effects can happen. For example, on a hot day, octopus will spoil quickly if you don’t have the right upgrades. There’s other buffs and debuffs, like more customer traffic or a higher ingredient cost. You can also fast forward the day to what I assume is 2x speed, if you’re not doing much and are more focused on the game. 𓆩♡𓆪 Street Takoyaki is not at all an intense game that doesn’t require much attention compared to a lot of idlers games I have played, so if you are looking for something more active that wants your attention, this would not fit the category. However it is a great fit if you’re looking for something easy and simple to progress on the side of tasks you’re busy with, such as working at your PC, this could be a nice companion. Days take a few minutes to finish and there is no rush to get back to the game once it ends, as it simply waits in the menu for you to return and organise. I think personally I would like a little more, like maybe a minigame for cooking for those who want a bit more interaction. But I expect this would probably deter from its inspiration game a bit much. While not a concern for me, there were (at the time of playing, pre-release) no achievements, which may be a great suggestion for the dev as it will definitely lure in some more players. If you’re looking for something pretty, super casual and chill with a little bit of management, I certainly believe this could be something to put on your radar! Just be aware that it is a very simple idle game that needs little of your attention. Otome Lovers wishes to thank Hermit Hollow for providing a free review copy for this game. What players are saying
A super simple and relaxing idle management game. Make sure you have enough supplies for the day, pick a location, buy your upgrades, then start. I put a little over 1 hour into the game before I got soft-locked and had to restart. I only had a couple upgrades left to buy, anyway. After day 20 or so, money becomes meaningless, as you make money far more quickly than you can spend it. Also, even though it's a very simple game, it's missing explanations as to how mechanics work, like yakuza, stress, etc. I have a rule where I need to get at least 1 hour of play per dollar spent on a game to make it worth it. I got a little over 1 hour, and I spent $6. The game needs more content, upgrades, and balancing before I can say it's worth the price. Also fix the soft lock. I started the event where I stay in one place for more than 1 day to reduce yakuza presence, but I started it during a limited 3-day event. I figured if I set my yakuza event for 3 days, it would line up perfectly with the limited event, but instead, it just made it where I cannot start the next day or select another location.
It seems incredibly shallow, like someone vibecoded this over a weekend The evolution is slow and overall uninteresting, the mechanics badly explained, i stopped 1.5 hour in, but i think this game probably has 2 or 3 hours of gameplay at best.
