The combat is probably the strongest part for me. I can switch between different skills and build my skill tree around the way I want to play, with sword attacks and lightning abilities being part of the same character. It gives me the feeling that I am building one very powerful character instead of having to choose a specific class before I even start.
The progression is also very fast. I get a lot of rewards early on and there are plenty of quests and activities pushing me towards better equipment and higher combat power. There are also different systems for upgrading my character, including artifacts, talents and other equipment improvements. I like having something new to upgrade almost constantly, even if it can become a little overwhelming.
The character customisation is another nice touch. I can choose a male or female appearance and then add things such as costumes, wings and visual effects from the artifact system. It gives me quite a lot of ways to make the character look more dramatic, which fits the exaggerated style of this type of MMORPG.
The biggest problem for me is how heavily the game pushes paid progression. There are multiple membership levels with increasingly large bundles of currency and materials, and the game's own guide even recommends an initial purchase to help with progression and reaching higher membership levels. I can play for free, but it is difficult to ignore how much the game is built around spending to progress faster.
I also think the amount of systems can make the game feel more complicated than it needs to be. There are currencies, equipment, artifacts, talents, memberships and plenty of other upgrades appearing one after another. I enjoy having lots to work towards, but sometimes I feel like I am spending more time managing menus and rewards than actually thinking about the combat.
The fact that it is still in Early Access also matters. The developers describe the current version as a work in progress and have planned additional systems such as War God equipment transformation, battle spirit pets and new secret realm dungeons. That means there is potential for the game to become more substantial, but I am judging it based on what is actually available right now rather than what might arrive later.
Overall, 1.80战神微变 is a fast and very progression focused MMORPG that does a good job of delivering that classic Chinese Legend style experience with a more flexible single class. I like the combat, huge number of upgrades and flashy character customisation, but the aggressive monetisation and large number of progression systems hold it back. It is also only officially available in Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, so that is another major limitation for me if I cannot read either language.
