A minimalist aquarium sim that runs in your Windows taskbar, letting you passively breed and collect fish while you work. The core loop revolves around discovering new species, managing your tank population, and trading duplicates—all without demanding active attention. Best suited for players who enjoy collection games and want ambient gameplay that operates quietly in the background.

I’ve been playing PC FISH on Steam for a while now and I’m really enjoying the experience🎣
What I like most is the relaxing gameplay and the satisfying feeling of upgrading your fishing gear and catching different fish species. The controls are easy to learn, so it’s accessible even if you’re not usually a fishing game player, but there’s still enough progression to keep you interested for many hours.
One of my favorite features is that you can freely customize your aquarium after catching fish. It’s not just about collecting them you can design your own underwater display by choosing different fish, decorations, shells, plants, and other aquarium items. I really enjoy arranging the fish together with aquatic plants and decorative objects to create a unique and beautiful aquarium that feels personal and relaxing to look at.
The combination of fishing, collecting, and aquarium decoration makes the game much more enjoyable than a typical fishing simulator. Sometimes I spend as much time decorating my aquarium as I do fishing, which adds a creative element that keeps the game feeling fresh. Watching the fish swim around in an aquarium you designed yourself is surprisingly satisfying.
Overall, PC FISH is a great game if you want something calm, enjoyable, and stress free. Whether you like relaxing fishing gameplay, collecting different species, or creatively decorating an aquarium with plants, shells, and other decorations, the game offers a fun and peaceful experience that I’d definitely recommend to casual simulation and fishing-game fans.
I really wanted to like this one. Pixel fish swimming along my taskbar while I work is exactly the kind of dumb little joy I'll pay for. The art's good, it's genuinely lightweight, and the lo-fi track didn't make me want to mute it after an hour, which is more than I can say for most games in this genre.
But about two hours in I stopped feeling like I was keeping fish and started feeling like I was running inventory.
The whole thing is wired into the Steam Community Market. That single decision changes what the game is. Breeding stops being "oh neat, a weird orange one" and turns into rolling for traits that have a resale price. And the drop rates aren't published anywhere I could find, so you're grinding against odds nobody will tell you. A game this cozy shouldn't have an order book attached to it.
The "450+ fish and decorations" number is also doing a lot of work. Most of it is palette swaps and pattern variants off a much smaller set of actual species, plus decor that's purely cosmetic. Nothing a fish does is different from what another fish does. You're not building an aquarium, you're filling in a checklist. Which is fine as a side dish, but here it's the whole meal.
There's also paid DLC live on launch day. On a free game I don't think that's automatically scummy. But free-to-play + a trading market + day-one cosmetic packs is a pretty clear signal about where the design energy went, and it wasn't into the part where you enjoy the fish.
One more thing: the pitch is that it lives quietly alongside your work. Always-on-top overlays on Windows always have edge cases though, and I hit some around multi-monitor and fullscreen apps. (← this is the part to fill in with your actual setup and what broke — specifics are what make a review land.)
What would actually fix this, honestly:
Publish the breed odds. Just put them in the UI. It costs nothing and it's the single biggest trust problem the game has right now.
Give fish something to do. Even something small — a species that only breeds at night, one that changes color based on tank temperature, one that eats your smaller fish if you neglect it. Right now every fish is a sticker. Two or three real behaviors would do more for this game than another hundred palette swaps.
Make the Market optional and say so loudly. Let people flip a switch that turns off trading entirely and just gives them a slightly better solo drop rate. The people who want a market will keep it on. Everyone else gets the game they thought they were buying into.
Rework how the collection is counted. Show me "38 species, 412 variants" instead of one big number. It's more honest and it stops the checklist from feeling padded.
Add a real idle floor. If I close the game for three days, give me something when I come back. Right now the reward for stepping away is nothing, which quietly trains you to leave it running, which is the opposite of "cozy."
I'd flip this to a thumbs up pretty quickly if a couple of those landed. The bones are good, the art's charming, and the taskbar idea is genuinely clever. It's just built around the wrong loop right now. Check back in a couple of months.
