Unfortunately, you'll get more content and better gameplay with less bugs by just playing the older Close Combat titles. It seems very unfinished. The gameplay was almost what I had hoped for, but the poor animations and general lack of detail across the board kills it. The game looks terrible, and it's really a shame. I would probably pay 10 dollars for this title, but 40 is an insane ask for the state that it is in.

At first I was a little skeptical, the camera felt off, but I found out you can edit the camera tilt and zoom levels in:
YOURSTEAMDRIVE:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Close Combat - The Bloody First\Data\Mapview.txt

ZOOMINLIMIT 20
TOPDOWNZOOMINLIMIT 20
PITCH 20
PITCH2 60
PITCHLIMIT 40

feels better for me. The dudes are ugly as F when you zoom in close though ;)

Gameplay wise it feels good. The 3D really makes a differance when it comes to feeling the elevation on a map.

Strategically there are some differences too. If you're attacking you can choose how fast you want to attack. Hasty, without resupplying, prepare a few hours, attack at night or dawn. (If I recall all of them correctly.) Preparing might refill your off-map support like airstrikes too. You also get some options to split your team into specialist teams like, scouts, anti-tank, close combat and an extra rifle grenade thing.

Post-battle is a little different too. One of my guys got a 'Great Marksman' decoration. I think he'll get a scoped rifle now.

The series feels revitalized and I want 2 and 3 remade in the new engine. :)

Edit: Just gave an order to reverse to an halftrack in a dangerous position and it didn't start to turn around in circles and just reversed where I wanted it to go. 11/11 GOTY next!

Game should be renamed to "Close to highway robbery: The Bloody Ripoff!" I am an old close combat fan with endless hours. My friend and I purchased this game to play the co-op grand campaign. The problem despite the graphics being poor, is the game play is buggy. The grand campaign will not save the multiplayer co-op battle to advance to the next level.

Game was NO WAY ready for release with a hefty $39.99 price tag.
