This indie mouse-driven puzzle game definitely starts out quite amateurish.. I mean, all written in Comic Sans.. it was called like this on Windows 95?
Yeah, all the (little) text that's written in the whole game is in caps lock and in comic sans, with some spelling errors (ok, who cares one can say.. it's a casual game, there's no backstory xD) but I mean, the game's called Swipe Fruit Smash, and in the help section you'll find "swype" (sic) in the first line.. xD
Since this game's made in Unity and you can mess around with the settings, keep it full screen - playing it windowed will be very hard even in the level selection page..
The quality of course doesn't matter, given the quickness of this light game.
And the rules are quite simple: swipe with your mouse through equal elements, match 3 or more of them and follow the guidelines of each level.. and there's 100 of them! Yeah, so going deeper from the basic amateur/comic sans/minimalistic interface we're gonna see something interesting here..
Plus, there will be also lots of boosters: tiles removing all the objects of the same type, blocks removing columns and rows, bombs and so on!
So, what's nice about this match-3 game? Well, apart from all the bonuses.. it's challenging!
Every single level will have its own singular requirement - points to reach, objects of some color to collect, remove particular tiles and so on.. and apart from this, you'll also be timed and have limited moves in every level - it will be indicated on the lower left side of the screen; most levels will require few moves!
Or you'll have to pop tiles with a different background, to bring on the lower side of the screen some items by removing the tiles in-between and so on.. I mean, the usual mechanics of these kinds of games, but all works greatly given its indie/casual premises.
Let's face it: the game is extremely minimalistic. There are colored fruits in hexagons and with your mouse you'll draw lines matching three or more of them - most of the times you'll make long combos due do the game's easy approach.
Though, the 100 different levels and the challenging part of the game made me like it.
It's indie, graphics and sounds suck, and it costs too much if bought unbundled on not on sale, but all in all as a small puzzle game made by a single developer, it's nice to me.
The game saves on its own so that you can simply open this small Unity app and do some levels - they're all short, even 'cos as I said you're timed and you've got limited moves, so you can't keep on swiping and matching 100 times per level.
So, why not?
If you are looking for a casual puzzle game with match-3 elements and most of all every level different from the previous one (albeit with the same tiles and the same background, of course), well, this one's in my view a very nice time killer if played for half an hour a day or whenever you want.
It's simple in every possible meaning, but the high amount of levels and the high number of different requests to accomplish, make this game very funny and relaxing to me.
Don't expect anything more than a light-hearted, easy and quick puzzle, but if you like these premises they'll be definitely matched - the game has no bugs or such, you have to follow the rules in every level and well, everything will go smoothly.. it can be a little bit addicting too =P
Just lower the price, definitely, given that there are no trading cards too.. apart from this, get it on sale or in a bundle and play a nice casual indie match-3-like game for some hours ^^
