I bought this game the second it came out and the first song I played just to test the game as quickly as possible was the "I ain't got rythm" song from Phineas and Ferb... Don't ask.
For thoose that don't know, this game started life as a mobile game which didn't really work because this game fitted more as a PC game and you needed to have downloaded mp3's to play it. This is Audiosurf but for the price of a Strange Weapon in TF2.
I am going to compare this to Audiosurf since that's what this game is trying to rival.
Music Racer
- Has YouTube streaming
- Is cheaper
- Has real life cars
- Has a better visuals (in my opinion)
and that's about it.
Audiosurf
- Has leaderboards
- Has a lot more complex gameplay
- Has more gamemodes
- Is a lot more customizable in the options
- Combos
- More content in general
There are some things I want to be added to make this feel like a more complete game.
Add leaderboards obviously, Options to turn on engine noise (it feels kinda silent), Add more gamemodes (split screen/local multiplayer for example), hold down controls (hold left to be in the left lane and release to go back in the middle), make the points come more frequent, Spotify/SoundCloud support.
An issue I find also is the visibility. It's hard to see in what lane you should be in to get the points when going over a crest, Audiosurf combated this by having lines underneath the points to you see where you're supposed to be. They are also just hard to see in general since they are just small tiny white dots on the track where as in Audiosurf, they are theese big bulky chunks in bright colours. I also think it would be better if you didn't instantly die when hitting a red point (on hard mode), it's a bit too unsatisfying. In audiosurf when you stacked too many grays you'd just respawn in a couple of seconds but not be able to collect points in that time. Maybe adding lives would make hard mode more enjoyable.
So why am I recomending this game?
When you put into perspective that unboxing a case in CS:GO is more expensive than this entire game, you can't say it isn't worth it.
This game nails the visual element where as Audiosurf nails the gameplay element.
I'm a car guy that likes music so this is a perfect game for me. :)
