A great game with a let down of a HD remaster, I would highly recommend getting Toy Soldiers or Toy soldiers Complete On steam right now as they are half the price and play and feel much better then this version of the game. If the price of this game ever goes to 50% or more off i would say go for it but at the current asking price of 30$ it barely adds any new content that the original and Complete did not have, The texture improvements and wave adjustments while nice in my opinion do not justify the 30$ while the original play's just the same for only (10$) and complete (15$) that has both the original and its sequel Cold war.

tl,dr; Seems promising but in its current state i cannot recommend it

pros :
-new a.i that know how to correctly arc shots
-new coat of textures
-no more vehicle battery life (but limited secondary ammo)
-no environment destruction (meaning no money farming from blowing up sandbags. idk if this is a pro or con tho. can also block sniper tower POV)
-slightly revamped maps so its not EXACTLY the same as the original but same premise
-new main menu with some semi decent music for the time period
-online multiplayer is now 60FPS instead of locked at 30
-all dlc included with some new variants to survival and german campaign

cons :
-boss health is EXTREMELY increased no matter what difficulty you play on making even easy mode difficult
-over priced as ♥♥♥♥
-no ammo bar
-enemy unit/building health is either EXTREMLY hard to see. or just not visible at all unless you look at it from weird angles as the health bar is "inside" the unit/building rather than always over head in the original
-anti tank turret was removed with no re balancing to early missions where tanks are present making early missions hard AF
-air plane controls are awkward as you cant turn so easy with out aiming up at the heavens
-AA guns projectiles got reworked to be more "realistic" i think? but it drastically removes their effective range to almost point blank
-no split screen co-op
-Sniper tower sensitivity is SLOW as ♥♥♥♥ even when i revamped my ingame sensitivity to max and my DPI to 16k it still took me almost 20 seconds to do a 180 turn to face my toy box. which has resulted in a few units getting by cause of how slow it is
-anti infantry guns feel more weak some how. im still unsure if its me or the game but they feel drastically less effective at "anti"ing infantry.
-rotating artillery turrets is slow down with a small delay between pressing Q or E to rotate it
-mortar and artillery shells are MUCH slower than the original game making using them harder to arc.
-artillery shell cam doesn't "follow" the direction its facing and you can only rotate it in a 180 degree cone in front of the where it was fired. slowing down the shell also makes the shell move away from the cam.
-infantry units near the end of each level get "lost" and your left with 3 random infantry some where on the map waiting to come out or are stuck in place near the spawn point making killing them also hard.
-there is NO control scheme for how to use each turret like the original game. nor does it tell you how to use shell cam or planes. you have to of played the original to know they were even features
-the barrage system was reworked which im not against but the way they did it is just off. their isn't any random "red star" unit to instantly get a barrage any more. and due to not being able to see the health bars of enemy's you don't know which one to focus down to get a easy combo towards the barrage. on top of that it doesn't even tell you what barrage you got. i think cause only artillery barrage is in the game cause that's all that happened when i activated it.
-settings don't always save. back when i had to change my sensitivity for the sniper tower i had to go in and out of the settings to get the "save changes" prompt. as theirs no button to manually do it.
-some of the British a.i don't even move forward they just stand there doing nothing.
-tank controls have be made into a rail shooter for how it aims making it IMPOSSIBLE to aim even higher than 10 degrees
-HUD is intrusively huge blocking where your aiming in most cases
-friendly turrets can friendly fire player controlled vehicles. why?
-prices for each unit have been changed but clearly no thought was put into balancing how much money you earn from each kill meaning in alot of cases you will be broke and cant get the extra resource bonus for score at the end of the mission
-they replaced the anti infantry tier 3 with anti tank tier 1... but some how its used to attack infantry and does only "light" damage to vehicles. lighter than pinching it kind of damage.
-sound bugs out when to many turrets/enemys/vehicles are firing and it breaks for the whole level even if you restart the match. restarting the game is the only fix. ruining immersion in huge scale battles
-a.i controlled turrets can "bend" the aim down further than the player can when they control it. making turrets on high ledges impossible to use by the player.
-environment damage is only introduced in later levels but dont give near enough cash at all.
-random stuttering when entering vehicles, turrets and un pausing the game.
-environment damage is only introduced in later levels but dont give near enough cash at all.

side note: screw the uber tank mission. due to the money re balancing and no anti tank turrets it is PAIN just nothing but PAIN. tanks almost every round making it impossible to get combos for a barrage unless you get it from the early waves of infantry and save it up for the boss. the uber tank runs over all your ♥♥♥♥ and again due to the money re balancing you cant recover from losing turrets cause your broke now. player controlled tanks dont even scratch it the only turret able to do any form of damage ive seen is arty teir 2. which is expensive and the uber tank just rolls over with hardly any time to deal enough damage. never before did i think i would rage at a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toy soldiers game but here we are with a broken remaster.
-environment damage is only introduced in later levels but dont give near enough cash at all.

(will update the pros/cons as i play more of it if i ever do)

conclusion : 4/10
i LOVE toy soldiers franchise since the early days of xbox 360 arcade place. but this feels like their trying to be more gritty and "real" with what was meant to be just a plain old fun of a tower defence game. im not gonna refund it cause i got it on sale as im not paying £23 for a nearly 12 year old game remaster that isnt finished.

if your looking to buy a toy soldiers game just get "toy soldiers : complete" it has ALL DLCs and the cold war game to with tons more to it. dont get it for multiplayer as online multiplayer is locked at 30 fps (not split screen tho)

this game needs a ton more updates before i would even consider it apart of the toy soldiers franchise. should of said it was in early access then i might of been more forgiving but then they release it as a full product on steam.

For those who don't know Toy Soldiers yet. Toy Soldiers: HD is a tower defense game in a WW I setting. Like the title says, you are playing with toys.
There are parts on the map where units could be placed. LIke: flamethrower, mortar, howitzer,.... Those units could be upgraded to stronger ones.
Also you could take control of each unit and shoot at the enemy yourself. When taking control you can easy change from one unit to another by clicking the left or right button.
The view on the field and switching to the unit control works fluently.

Also toy soldiers could be spawned buy shooting them out of mortars or howitzers. When they arrive the battlefield they will try to get into the enemies base. When they reach the enemies base, your base (toy box) will be repaired if it is broken.

You also are able to snipe the enemy yourself, control vehicles like tanks and planes. For example, while the war on the ground is taking part, you can take control of a plane and clear the sky of enemy planes.

At some levels there are bosses at the end. I could say they are not that easy to defeat.

Beside the campaign there is also an splitscreen and online multiplayer part which I did not test yet.

Toy Soldiers: HD is a nice game with levels that show the WW I setting very good.
