Desktop Dinosaurs lets you raise virtual dinosaurs on your desktop, managing their needs and environment while watching hand-animated sprites evolve through their lives. The core loop involves maintaining resource bars, building your dinos' habitat, and keeping them content through interaction and care. It's a low-pressure companion game for players who enjoyed Tamagotchi-style mechanics, though note that it's a solo dev project still receiving updates to address stability issues.

I really want to like this game, but i can't recommend this to others in the state that it's in now.
This game is very clearly unfinished and buggy. The status bars of the dinos drain inconsistently. Sometimes they tick down every other second, sometimes its every second, if you switch between overlay mode and full screen, it can break the bars and cause them to freeze until you restart the game.
The dinosaurs themselves are cute, but require much more management that i was anticipating. The dinosaurs eat and sleep by themselves, but you have to pet them to make sure they eat. With the inconsistent bars, sometimes they want to get pet every 5 minutes, other times it's every minute. Because of how much time they need to get pet, it makes it feel less like a pet that casually hangs around with you and does it's own thing and more like a ticking time-bomb of sadness. This wouldn't bother me so much, if the times for the dinosaurs growing up was scaled around this, but its not. The dinosaurs can also get stuck mid animation, like with eating or sleeping.
This game has a lot of potential, and i really want to see it grow and flourish, bu it's very flawed as now. This is stuff i were to expect from an early access game, not a game that claims to be a full release.
I followed the game from itch and it finally release on steam ! If you like cute pixel art game then go for it. The dev is solo and worked hard on is free time to deliver features so give him some strength.
