Demoniac Words pairs vocabulary learning with a narrative-driven experience about two girls resisting dark forces. The game uses stylized, minimal presentation to keep focus on word-building mechanics, supporting both Chinese speakers learning English and vice versa. It's for players seeking educational content wrapped in unconventional art direction rather than traditional edutainment polish.
About this game
The evil has taken everything from two sorrowful girls, but the girls will not stop fighting, they will not stop resisting. They are not fighting for themselves.

An experimental vocabulary game. Its presentation is definitely unique, like if an even lower budget Killer7 decided to skip murder and teach english instead. To its benefit, the stylised simplicity of art and music in no way distract from WORDS.
While heavy emphasis is on those fluent in chinese and learning english, the format lends itself fine to the opposite, so my review is written from that perspective. The UI, story statements, and locations are bilingual. I didn't come across any questions on a timer, which frees you to learn at your own pace, take notes, add words to your decks, whatever. Questions themselves are contextual and repetitious in a way that requires you to pay attention, but without that feeling of just repeating something mindlessly. Of course questions that involve spelling english words you'll breeze through but you shouldn't, as often chinese synonyms are listed and called upon in later questions. Otherwise, you will probably want some foundational understanding of radicals if you wish to answer questions logically, without pure guessing.
As of this writing, there are 12 chapters available. The first one I went through was relatively short, which is great because there is nothing more tiresome than being trapped in a long lesson where you don't know anything or you know everything and just went to get through. It also makes replays less tedious. At the end of each chapter, there are a handful of questions you must answer to unlock the next, which feels fair. Within the context of the story, your strength in answering these questions provides strength to the avatar of words, so you naturally want to do your best. You can save at any time during a chapter, but you can only load from the chapter display scene or within a chapter itself (not from the main menu), which can be confusing until you realise it.
For 2$ and seemingly made by one person, obviously this isn't some full featured language learning program. Perhaps it is missing some basics you'd expect, like hovering over words for pronunciation, or hearing a word, or something similar, I'm not a mind reader. I believe the developer has a lot of ideas for future additions, but as the game is now, it's a curious and inexpensive supplement to any learning you're currently doing.
Since the Early Access version launched on Steam, “DEMONIAC WORDS” has been actively planning comprehensive new content and features, with new game content continuously in development. At the same time, multilingual support, full controller support, and Steam achievement configuration must be prioritized and integrated into “DEMONIAC WORDS”.We are currently testing the Steam achievement system, which will affect players who have already purchased the Early Access version of “DEMONIAC WORDS”. The achievements recently added are solely for testing whether the feature functions correctly and do not represent the final achievement list. Players do not need to pay attention to them.Once we confirm that the Steam achievement system is working properly, all test achievements will be removed, and the official achievement list will be configured. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this process may cause to players who have already purchased the game.
The first available version of “DEMONIAC WORDS” launched on May 27, 2023, and that's just the beginning. I am working hard on the subsequent content. The full content of “DEMONIAC WORDS”, will contain two new game modes. I know nothing about code. But I will hire good programmers. In order to keep users from being plagued by a bunch of bugs while using it, I made “DEMONIAC WORDS” to run smoothly on a low configuration computer. I also have to stick to the humble graphics effects. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44105065/6dcf134a6e284a4f2716f66e4f018694b30d3dc6.jpg I will work a few jobs to ensure that “DEMONIAC WORDS” has the funds to continue developing until “DEMONIAC WORDS” is ready to show its full form. I want users to use “DEMONIAC WORDS” as a tool of practicing English words, rather than a game. For all those who do not know English at all or have very weak English skills. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44105065/67cb89d6f0f0a5c9aa8e495e17664a682b60f184.jpg Although “DEMONIAC WORDS” has characters, stories, battles, and life. The stories in “DEMONIAC WORDS” will reflect heavy reality and also tell stories about the growth of the characters. “DEMONIAC WORDS” hopes to enable users with zero or weak English skills to learn 8,000 words and then have the ability to read ordinary English articles. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44105065/a67e4b2a5682b50dabacfe4874457b2760e02b50.jpg The first thesaurus (8000 words) has been prepared. I have a plan to update multi-language support and gamepad support in the next version. After that, I will update the content about this thesaurus which will be included in the new game mode, so please be patient and wait. The achievement system is not available for now. It will be conceived after the next game mode is finished. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44105065/f1bf2ef961d1e0beffe270624a11fb647ee1355d.jpg Thank you very much for your interest in “DEMONIAC WORDS” at all times. “DEMONIAC WORDS” will be developed so that users can have more useful content.
