Chill music. Chill visuals. Chill mood. What else is there to ask for? (I feel like this game could use some kind of DLC) FINAL RATING: 9 / 10

In a world full of hectic games and fast-paced action, Flow State - Max Chill Edition takes the opposite approach: relaxation and focus with a minimalist pixel art design meant to create a calming effect on the player. I’d venture to say I probably own every game of this type by now and if not, it’s either because it hasn’t been released yet or it’s so well hidden that I haven’t found it. Most titles copy the concept popularized by ChilledCow/Lo-Fi Girl, rarely introducing innovative aspects, or they try to milk the cow for as much as possible with a growing collection of DLCs. While it's great that Flow State is free, I couldn’t help but notice some drawbacks early on. There’s no way to mute the music or adjust the volume. Some tracks aren’t necessarily bad, but they don’t quite fit the setting - and to be honest, they don’t really qualify as Lo-Fi either. Additionally, the mastering quality varies significantly between tracks: one song might have a True Peak of -4 dB, while another is overly compressed and maxes out at -0.1 dB, leading to inconsistent loudness levels that disrupt the intended chill atmosphere. Then there’s the issue that, despite unlocking 19 songs at the time of writing, it feels like the same six tracks keep playing over and over, making everything repeat excessively. Moreover, I recognize some songs from other games, which is another aspect that could use improvement. I’m currently working on another article specifically about task-helper, cozy and idle games, which will include a tier list. Flow State will likely end up somewhere in the lower mid-tier. However, for those who are unfamiliar with this type of small, relaxing games and want to give it a try, I can still recommend it.
