Note: A great friend gifted me a copy of this game. ^^
Kitten's Wardrobe is a cozy, cute exploration game developed and published by crobatspr. You take on the role of a cute white kitty who has lost its tail and been kidnapped. Next thing you know, you find yourself in Dessert Town, where you meet the various cute inhabitants and help them with various tasks, mainly by painting items they wish to have, which then turns them into real objects. Of course, there is a villain who has the kitty's tail as well as causes harm to one of the inhabitants, but perhaps the villain isn't whom they appear to be.
As for the gameplay, you use your keyboard and mouse to move the kitty around. The main gameplay aspect is creating the paintings, though. When you encounter a paintbrush, you're prompted as to whether you wish to create a painting. Assuming that you want to, then you'll have to trace the object in question. Not only that, you have to do so as accurately as possible and within the time limit (although the time limit is fairly generous). Also, there are some mini-games, such as recreating cupcakes from memory and earning points from catching fish within a certain time limit. In addition, there are plenty of Steam achievements, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited".
Having finished up the story and gameplay, I'll get on with my thoughts. I remember that the store page for Kitten's Wardrobe caught my attention, so of course, I wishlisted it. Thanks to an awesome friend, I was gifted a copy of it. First, I enjoyed the story very much. While most games tell stories through text, there's no text here. The story is told through pictures, which I found to be cute and sweet. It's like how we don't always need words to convey our thoughts and feelings. Just by showing others through our actions, others will (or should, anyway) understand. I thought that this was very clever on the developers' part. I love how the kitty goes on this adventure to find its tail and then there's the encounter with the antagonist. However, the antagonist doesn't turn out to be one-sided. I love when the kitty looks into the antagonist's heart and sees just how hurt he has been by others, and the kitty heals him. This made me tear up, and I love the message that this sends in that kindness is needed when people are hurting. Unfortunately, this message will always be lost on some people.
Regarding the gameplay, I enjoyed the exploration part and where the kitty would interact with the inhabitants of Dessert Town. As for tracing the pictures, I was able to successfully do so without much trouble, but this might prove to be a bit of a problem if you don't have steady hands. In regards to the mini-games, I like that there's a variety of them. Of course, I enjoyed certain ones more than others. While my favorite would have to be the recreating cupcakes game, my least favorite would definitely have to connect 5 (or from what I've since learned, it's called gomoku). This wouldn't have bothered me too much if there wasn't a Steam achievement tied to winning at all the mini-games. At any rate, I was able to obtain all of the Steam achievements. If you're simply looking to complete the main story, then it'll take less than an hour, but if you want to win at all the mini-games, then your gameplay time may be longer.
As for the art, I found it very cute and sweet. I love how the kitty and the other inhabitants were drawn and colored. The same goes for the backgrounds. The art style really makes you feel like you're in this sweet, fantasy wonderland. Although here is where I would like to show screenshots, unfortunately, the game wouldn't allow me to take any. I've read that others have had this problem, so I guess the ones on the Steam store page will have to suffice.
In regards to the music, I love the tracks that are present. Like the art, the music gives off that cute, sweet vibe. It definitely feels relaxing and soothing, perfect for following the kitty as it goes on its adventure to find its tail.
Overall, would I recommend Kitten's Wardrobe? If you enjoy cozy, cute relaxing games and you're looking for a short one to play, then this is worth taking a look. I only found one or two mini-games to be a bit annoying and I wish that there wasn't an achievement tied to them, but if you either like the challenge or can ignore the mini-games altogether, then it's all good. For the asking price, I think it's a great bargain, and cozy, cute games are just wonderful. ^^
