Do not invest your time in this game! It's a tight knit community with abusive moderators, an admin/owner/operator with an anti gov't complex. You say or do anything that bothers any of "their" group (non staff) and you will be reprimanded regardless of actions. Very similar situation to Fantasy-mmorpg (fantasy online) Beware

What players are saying
Like other games in this genre, the game attempts to make up for its lack of content by making everything a grindy slog. If you like these types of games (as I do), then you may enjoy this game. It borrows heavily in theme from OSRS. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend the game as the Devs/Mods are hypocritical individuals with a heavy bias towards favoritism to their tight knit community of Patreon supporters. Of the 50 or so active players, 10-15 of them are considered "Staff" in one form or another. The server is heavily Moderated based on this favoritism. As a French man, I made a joke about French women having hairy legs. One of these Patreon supporters who is also French did not like that, and the following message was received from Staff. "it is diff if you're french as well, and being from europe I get the self-deprecation joke, but some newbies may not specially young americans joining. we had that happen where they started calling ***** a rat because they saw others do it. we're just trying to keep a safe place, since there are young ones that play the game. I appreciate the message deletions and not arguing 💜 sorry it happened this way. also TIL about it originating in WW2 (and a lot of french women dont shave, specially on the countryside lmao)" These same Devs then proceeded to make several inappropriate jokes of sexual nature in the very same channel that they were so concerned about moments earlier. Do not waste your time on this game, as it will not succeed. Not because the game is objectively bad, but because the Devs are not making a game for public consumption. They are making a game for their buddies and the 5 people who give them $100/m on their Patreon. Edit for Dev: Very poor attempt to try and save face. I suppose it's to be expected though. Those of us who have played the game and been in the Discord know the reality and your lies/contradictions don't change that. Good luck, you're going to need it!
Not Recommended
Having been involved with Kaetram since its BETA release in October 2023, and spending over 5 months on the development team as a Moderator and/or Community Manager, I can no longer recommend this game for several reasons:
Toxic Environment
In my experience, the game's owner, Keros, has shared controversial views and created a divisive atmosphere among team members. This has led to a negative working environment and poor community relations. I've observed instances where community members were treated poorly, contributing to an overall toxic environment. Keros creates exclusive groups to rant about others and labels them derogatorily, such as "Mental ward" or "ACTUAL TWEAK TEAM".
Pay-to-Win System
It seems that spending $100 on a patron subscription can significantly boost a player's progress to endgame gear. Despite feedback from the community, items remain tradable, likely to ensure continuous purchases. This practice undermines the game's integrity, as rare items and exclusive rewards promised to be limited are available for high prices. Additionally, custom skins, including some with controversial themes, can be purchased, which many players find inappropriate.
Unbalanced Gameplay
In my opinion, Kaetram struggles with balance issues. New content is often prioritized over addressing existing imbalances, resulting in numerous hotfixes post-update. The lack of proper testing leads to a frustrating player experience, with certain classes, such as Melee, being at a significant disadvantage compared to others, especially against bosses.
Biased Moderation
The staff team appears to favor certain players, giving friends and patrons preferential treatment. This creates a biased environment that discourages fair play and fosters resentment among players. Additionally, there have been instances where Keros has attributed the game's issues to former staff, which, in my view, doesn't address the core problems.
Negative Community Experience
The community has shown signs of favoritism and inappropriate behavior. New players may encounter derogatory comments from more experienced players, and the Trade channel is often dominated by "elites" who belittle newcomers. This toxic atmosphere is further exacerbated by ineffective moderation, making it difficult for new players to integrate and enjoy the game.
Unprofessional Handling of Issues
Recently, Keros made a community announcement blaming most issues on former staff members, claiming he couldn't have handled the situations at that time. This announcement was unprofessional, especially since Keros himself played a significant role in the inappropriate behavior. Now that he has a reputation to maintain, he has started to backstab former colleagues like me, despite his own significant contributions to the problems.
Conclusion
While Kaetram has potential, it is currently overshadowed by a toxic community, pay-to-win system, and unbalanced gameplay. The favoritism and inappropriate behavior from some members of the community and staff further detract from the experience. Based on my experience and the feedback from other players, I cannot recommend this game in its current state. Save your time and money and look elsewhere.
