A visual novel with an ending that locks you out from playing the game again.
The story follows a woman who just lost her mother. Her brother, who is preoccupied with his job, is the only surviving relative; her father passed away many years ago. She inherited the old family home, and now that no one else lives there, she must take care of it. Her first task is to go there and locate the necessary paperwork so she can sell it.
As with any visual novel, the gameplay consists of following the story, clicking to advance to the next line, and occasionally making decisions. I like that you can engage with the content rather than just scroll through long passages of text. You can click on a number of hotspots within scenes. Most only provide a statement from the main character, but at least one of them advances the plot.
The visual novel engine that powers the game has all the features you require. You can skip text that you have already viewed and save at any moment. Although you can choose to skip everything, you also miss the entire story and the reason why you play visual novels.
Because there are no grammatical errors or strange sentences that typically result from literal translations, the English script is passable. The font selection is the only drawback; letters have a thick edge and can be challenging to read on bright backdrops. Since some untranslated words enhance the game's atmosphere, they are not a problem. Unfortunately, letters and documents are also included in this.
Moreover, voices are there, but in Russian only. Although I can’t say anything against the voice actors, the voices don’t sound like they were recorded in a professional studio.
Now, there are four endings. Playing the game twice or three times will be necessary because additional options do not appear until you have seen one conclusion. Most decisions are irrelevant because the important decision are made at the very end. However, while most endings are fine, the worst one breaks the game.
Either I picked the worst one or there’s a bug. After I made a choice at the end, the game closed by itself and returned me to the desktop. But when I tried to run the game again, I was welcomed by a screaming sound and a distorted face on the screen. You can’t click anything and the game always closes.
Even reinstalling the game or deleting the save folder didn’t fix it. The only way I could continue playing was to take advantage of the game’s engine and press F1 before the game closes.
