Metamorph

What a refreshing little indie gem! I am a huge fan of both psychological horror and otome games, so when I saw Metamorph had both, I had to give it a try. Based loosely on Kafka's Metamorphosis, it shows a teenage girl struggling to cope with her growing emotions and changes, wondering if they will overtake her.

One word I would use to describe this game is charming. There are a few different endings, and it doesn't take too long to play through them. The mini-games are adorable, and I absolutely love the roach references and UI.

This game is not perfect; some text goes off screen at times, and there is no save function, but those two things didn't bother me too much.

Overall, I absolutely adored this game. There are no jumpscares, just good ol' fashioned spooky environment. The body horror scenes did do their job of making me feel squeamish without going overboard. I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing her interact with her love interest. If you are in the mood for a unique bite sized psychological horror experience with cute psx graphics, I highly recommend giving this game a try.

This game is fantastic. Worth checking out if you're at all interested! First play through took me about 90 minutes.


I liked how they took Kafka's metaphor of becoming monstrous, twisting it from disability, to the horrors of opening up. That our main character is only a mask that no one really seems to care or know.
But one day, a boy she admires adores her art, and it sparks his interest to know her. Over the course of the week, they spend time together, and presuming you succeed the skill checks, she opens up and learns about him, and he in turn learns about her.
However, every day she opens up, she discovers she has become a little more monstrous. She may try to preen herself back to the facade, but the damage is done.
This goes on until the game finally climaxes with her confession. Her transformation is complete and there is nothing left to hide.

I do wish there was some falling action based on your choices. Just a little "this is what happened" to each character would have been nice.
Also don't like that you can only pick one side character to explore each play through. It means you're gonna -have- to play the game 4 times to complete all their quests. 8 if you wanna see all the content. It's not a long game, but since the game isn't really about time management, I feel like being forced to choose hurts the game.
I feel it would have been neat to see how every character feels about the main character's transformation based on their relationship by the end.

Even with those minor complaints though, I am going to tell as many people as I know to check this one out.

what is existential dread if not the alienation of self under capitalism and systemic misogyny persevering. or something of the sort
