Call of Heroes bills itself as tower defense but functions primarily as a free-to-play RPG built around hero collection and progression. You recruit and upgrade champions with distinct abilities, then deploy them in tower defense scenarios that serve more as a gating mechanism than a strategic challenge. The outcome hinges heavily on grinding stats rather than tactical placement, making it better suited for players comfortable with extended resource management rather than puzzle-solving defenders.

Calling this a tower defense is a bit of a stretch. The description sounds impressive, but aside from the 10 unique heros w/ unique skills part the rest is a nightmare meant to punish players. The game is a F2P grind style RPG where you happen to place the heros in a tower defense minigame.

First off, strategy and thinking are borderline meaningless. Win or lose will come down to your heros stats which improve using the most boring method possible. Base level exp from grinding missions, gear which is literally stat stick that increases the stats each tier, and upgrade tier which is currency paid from more mission spam. Base level figuratively caps with levels becoming too hard to gain when you get stuck and upgrade tier is level locked so that won't help you either.

So you still need to be stronger, well that just leaves weapons. You can craft or buy weapons. Crafting involves grinding 2 wave levels over and over because the sandbox mode w/ extended levels requires premium currency (gain 1 match worth of currency every 2 hours). yes that is right, there is premium currency in this non-F2P game which lets you buy gold to purchase weapons (gold can also be obtained by endless grinding). Coincidentally, the option w/ money involved is the only one that permits you to obtain gear higher than your current campaign progress.

Wow could it get worse? sadly yes. As with most F2P games you have grind achievements to earn currency. Despite the them literally showing you pictures of which units give progress sometimes they don't actually count. After each level it gives you a screen to provide feedback. If you type the letter R in the feedback text box it triggers the hotkey for map restart. Each map get used 10 consecutive levels in a row against enemies types that keep jumping up in HP total to further remind players this game is entirely about grinding and not strategy.
