MiniEco blends idle mechanics with active ecosystem management, letting you cultivate or sabotage evolving species across procedurally-shaped habitats. The game rewards both passive observation and deliberate intervention, as thousands of organisms adapt and interact in real time based on your choices. It appeals to players seeking a relaxing yet engaging simulation that combines nature watching with sandbox-style environmental control.

Progress Update - Working on Genetics and Evolution Systems

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share what I’ve been working on lately for the game. I've started building the genetics and evolution systems, which will be a core part of the gameplay. Observation & Gene Editing {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45570677/f1d874eb714e3789038b4aa4151a7a243c2d5980.gif Each animal inherits one DNA strand from each parent (yep, traits get passed down!). From this DNA, things like muscles, skeleton structure, fur color, and other traits are determined. These traits will define both the creature’s stats and its appearance. Right now, only color and size are affected, but I’m planning to expand this with more visual variety in the future. When a creature meets certain genetic conditions, a new species is born! New species can’t breed with their ancestral species anymore — evolution is branching forward. Evolution Tree {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45570677/4e7c15c56459e8b36e77e77d152ab96248f72a9c.png Whether through natural evolution or gene editing, progression on the evolution tree always moves to the right. If you want to unlock earlier (left-side) species, you’ll need to complete special missions or gather rare resources. You can speed up the in-game time, walk away for a bit, and come back to see which genes thrived in certain environments — and what kind of new species emerged! It’s been a lot of fun building this, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Would you want more visual mutations? Or deeper genetic systems? Let me know what you think!

Hello everyone! Welcome to the official Mini Eco Community Hub! I'm OHyatSu, the developer behind this little world. I'm really excited to share that the Mini Eco “Coming Soon” page on Steam is finally live! There will be plenty of updates to the Steam page throughout this month — there are still many systems and features already in the game that I haven’t had the chance to properly showcase yet. I’ll also be posting regular devlogs right here in the Community Hub to share progress, insights, and behind-the-scenes bits. So if you’re curious about the development journey, make sure to follow the hub to stay up to date! (I know the store page looks a bit plain for now — more content and polish are definitely on the way!) Current Focus Right now, I’m dedicating myself almost full-time to developing Mini Eco. I do have a few older games I made in the past, but honestly, I’m a bit shy to share them 😂. To help cover living costs, I still work one or two days a week on the side — but Mini Eco is where most of my energy and heart go. I genuinely see Mini Eco as my “last game” — not because I plan to stop making games, but because I want to keep expanding it for the long term. While the current focus is on creatures inspired by Earth, the possibilities for future expansions are endless. Think alien monsters, fantasy creatures like dragons, or even Jurassic-era dinosaurs! I’m especially fascinated by the idea of introducing creatures from different worlds into each other’s ecosystems — and watching how they interact, adapt, and evolve. That kind of cross-theme dynamic could lead to endless fun and unexpected discoveries. Release Timeline Regarding the immediate future, the core features for the demo are almost implemented! I’m currently working hard on polishing these systems alongside ongoing development. My goal is to do my very best to release the demo before the Steam Next Fest scheduled for June. After the demo release, once enough base content is ready, I plan to implem...
