Demo Update: The Journal Stays Open (v0.45.38)

The chambers have been busy. A patch's worth of quiet improvements is now live in the demo, on Steam and on the web. New The demo has a proper ending now. Entry 60 no longer just... stops. The journal has something to say about it. We won't spoil it here. It isn't finished with you either. The first minutes at the pool are more alive. New fishers get a gentler welcome, and those paying attention may notice they're not alone down there from the very start. Improved All 31 languages, everywhere. The full journal, the new ending, and every keyword highlight now render correctly in every supported language, including inflected forms (yes, "epiche" is finally fully orange). Early journal pacing has been tuned so the opening entries flow better. Default music volume is friendlier to first-time ears. Fixed Mobile: the tab bar no longer crops on shorter phones, and the Settings and Collection tabs are always reachable in portrait. Rarity and stat colors now apply in every language, not just English. The wishlist thank-you message now politely excuses itself instead of lingering forever. The full story runs deeper than the demo's sixty entries. If you want to be there when the rest surfaces: wishlist Backrooms Fishing, and keep fishing in the chambers.

Backrooms Fishing - Sound Effects and 31 Languages

The last update was about how you play the demo. This one is about how it sounds, and who can read it. Sound The Poolrooms make noise now. Water drips and echoes off the tile, the tide washes in and back out, and swells roll up when they appear. Every catch, upgrade, and journal page has its own small sound, and it all runs through one reverb so it holds together instead of sounding like separate beeps. Buy a few upgrades in a row and the note climbs with each one. If you would rather fish in quiet, there is a new sound effects slider in Settings, next to the music one. 31 Languages The demo is now translated into 31 languages, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, and more. Arabic and the other right-to-left languages flip the whole layout to match. Pick your language in Settings. The translations are new, so if a line reads wrong or runs off the edge of a button, tell us in the discussions and we will fix it. A Calmer Opening The first few minutes were doing too much at once. Low tide now lasts longer before it turns, so the tide is something you notice now and then instead of every few seconds. The first journal entry takes a little longer to unlock, and the earliest achievements are spread out instead of arriving all together. Also in This Update On phones, Settings now fits on one screen as a grid instead of scrolling off the side. Assorted fixes. Every release still boots, plays, saves and resumes under automated tests on real Mac and Linux hardware before it goes out. Existing saves carry over untouched, same location, same progress. The demo covers the first 60 journal entries of the full game. If you're enjoying it, wishlisting Backrooms Fishing genuinely helps a small studio like ours. Thanks for playing.

Backrooms Fishing - Full Controller Support and Steam Deck

The last update brought the demo to macOS and Linux. This one is mostly about how you play it: with a controller, and with a bit more to do while the tide runs. Here is everything that landed. Play With a Controller Full controller support is in, from the launcher all the way through the game. The left stick moves the cursor, A catches and buys upgrades, the bumpers switch tabs, and the right stick scrolls. You do not have to turn anything on. Plug in a pad and the on-screen cursor follows it. Unplug it and the mouse takes over again. It is tuned for Steam Deck, so the demo plays the same in handheld as it does at a desk. Controller support is new, so if a button feels wrong or something is hard to reach with a pad, post in the discussions and we will fix it. Click to Catch You no longer have to wait out the tide for every catch. Click anywhere on the water and you pull one in, with a ripple where you clicked. The idle loop keeps running underneath, so clicking is there when you want to push your rate up, and you can still leave it alone and let the Poolrooms fish themselves. Swells still stretch your high tide when you click them. Now the ordinary catching in between is in your hands too. A New Ambient Track There is new music for the Poolrooms, an ambient piece called The Poolrooms Breathe. It loops and fades the same way the old track did, so nothing about the mix or the volume controls changes. It just sits better under a long session. As before, you can turn it down or off in Settings. Settings, Rebuilt Settings used to run off the bottom of the screen. It is now a set of categories down the side, with everything for each one on a single screen and no scrolling. Your almond water rate and the rest of your stats sit in a strip along the bottom, so they stay visible while you change things. Also in This Update A cleaner start for new players: the tide panel, catch feed, stats box and achievements tab now fade in as the quest that introduces them unlocks, instead ...
