But right now this game has a SERIOUS bug where if you get damaged, the amount your logs sells for goes back to Level 0. And it's impossible to raise it back up again, so you're stuck selling worthless logs. Until they fix this, don't buy since it makes you pretty much softlocked.
A Game About Cutting A Tree
by Limey Studio
Media
A minimalist woodcutting idle game where you fell trees, sell logs, and upgrade your axe to push deeper into an overgrown forest. The core loop emphasizes resource gathering and incremental progression through equipment improvements, with occasional combat encounters and hidden secrets to discover. Best suited for players who enjoy simple, meditative sim mechanics like those in RuneScape's woodcutting skill, though be aware the game is still rough around the edges with occasional bugs.
About this game
A minimalist game about reclaiming an overgrown forest Chop down trees, gather Wood, sell it, upgrade your axe, and uncover secrets hidden beneath the roots.
What players are saying
But right now this game has a SERIOUS bug where if you get damaged, the amount your logs sells for goes back to Level 0. And it's impossible to raise it back up again, so you're stuck selling worthless logs. Until they fix this, don't buy since it makes you pretty much softlocked.
- There are only three log types
- Only one "secret" with a useless reward
- Enemies respawn way too fast after exploding
-Incredibly buggy:
*** Taking damage resets your selling tier, which is a bit game-breaking...
* Hitting escape does not close menus, enjoy clicking the UI only for navigation
* Upgrading Stamina while empty of stamina refills your bar, but does not bring your swing speed back to normal until you purchase stamina after using it
* Sometimes the enemy AI breaks
* If you agro an enemy and walk into the house while it's howling/roaring, it will attack the outside of the house and deal you damage
* Sometimes the magnet simply will not pick up logs
* Energy Drinks simply do not work at all
* Spelling errors galore on the intro
And more.
Dev fixed all big playability issues with last update. Game is very playable now.
Animals heavily adjusted, much better. Healing is much more affordable!
New glitch:
I blew up a bear with the bomb. Later it came back to life but wasnt walking around, and was able to paw and damage me from like 20ft away...... :\
Also, invisible animals attacking you still happens. Reloading saved level fixes this.
Suggestions:
-Instead of a progress bar for already chopped trees... add a few different cut tree marks so you can see a tree has already been partially cut, or is about to fall down. Similar to The Forest/Sons of the forest. Would really up the realism.
-Being able to hit the animals would be nice so they hesitate a little. Give you a chance to get some distance from them when they attack.
-Slower Day/night gradient fade would be a nice touch. So there is less rapid change in brightness, like real life.
-Chainsaw vibrates while not in use, but there is no sound of the chainsaw running at idle. Add subtle sound. Chainsaw teeth not animated while chainsaw is actively cutting. Allow buttons 1+2 change between Ax and chainsaw (once obtained) so that the chainsaw running noise isn't constantly playing.
-Add some music? :D
- Change backpack icon WITH status bar to a slightly larger backpack icon only, that itself fills up in color. Less status bars then cluttering things up. Large status bar seems un-nessesary.
*Update:*
A few hours after release devs put out a update. Very nice to see! Thank you devs! <3
Changed my review to recommended!
Animals do feel adjusted somehow. But still do relentlessly chase you down at high speed from across the map. Little slower, little weaker would be nice. Maybe let you whack them to go away?
Sometimes they seem to turn around sooner instead of chasing you all the way to the door.
Reputation counter doesn't go pass 100% into the 1000% range anymore. Seems fixed?
Animals don't seem to go invisible anymore!
Will modify this review as updates progress.

"A game about animals eating you"
I loved "A game about digging a hole". Played it thru a bunch. Unlocked everything.
99% digging.
So I'm being sort of critical of this game cause I expected better.
STILL CANT REBIND CONTROLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to rearrange my desk to use WSAD left handed. :(
Sort of let down, I was super excited for this game.
Logs seem to always be worth nothing as someone mentioned. Amount doesn't go up.
Animals are constantly eating you, and run like velociraptors. They spot you from across the map second you chop once. At this rate just replace them with dinosuars...
Also, sometimes the animals go invisible and you have to exit, and restart your saved game.
Spending more on heals/stamina then I can bring $ in with logs... Seems unplayable at this point. The balance is all F'ed up.
Maybe make animals only show up a little further out in the map.
The first chop of a tree is almost always a miss, but costs you stamina. Really noticeable when first starting.
Auto log pickup perk sometimes refuses to pickup 1 log in a bunch.
Maybe throw in a midi during gameplay with a sound menu to turn it off if you want?
Day night cycle is bipolar AF.
10% chopping, 90% dying. Isn't slow burn at all like "A game about digging a hole" but uses the same menus, and ideas.
This wasn't ready for public release... :(
