I thought I was buying some 'slice of life' visual novel, but ended up slicing the life instead. The game is pretty disturbing so know what you getting into, it has some depictions of animal cruelty, gore, and some unhinged themes for the story. Which you know, I don't have a problem with, I am just saying, I saw a charming looking game, and it wasn't exactly what I expected.
It's not just a visual novel, more like a graphic adventure, you can move between the scenes using the arrows on the pictures, there are some puzzles, but generally they are done automatically as long as you have the items, with a few exceptions. Navigation in the game was kinda horrible, very easy to confuse up and down, or left and right, but it's not a very big game so you can brute force it in 30 minutes or so. Apparently, there are a couple of optional endings, although I started having a bug during one of the puzzles, so for the time I can't fully explore every possibility, it has a a bit of replay value to it with achievements.
I liked the art panels, you have a slightly different style from similar games, there are some occasional animations for the gory scenes, and even some mind games with how the game interacts with you. Overall the story is different enough from anything else that is out there, so it has that going for it. Given that right now only 1 out of 5 chapters is available, I take it we will have 1 chapter per character, perhaps exploring some mental trauma for each individual in each chapter.
So far I don't fully understand what is happening, probably because the game is not finished yet, but the character is presumably interacting with a "God", or at least that is what he wants us to think. Hard to say if you are meant to take it at face value, or if the game is more about characters reflecting on the trauma they had.
(+) Somewhat unusual and disturbing story, I thought it was curious if nothing else. The game will play around with your expectations a little, made me laugh a few times as well, perhaps not for the right reasons.
(+) The art panels were enjoyable, it has a few neat gore animations and some provoking scenes, if you don't mind those that is.
- the navigation in the game is very annoying, it's very easy to run in circles because you guys keep changing up and down, left and right. It's so unnecessary. You need to keep the direction more predictable, or at least provide some way to use waypoints.
Update: markers were added to make it easier to navigate*
- the puzzle with the picture can softlock the game sometimes
Interesting story but poor navigation system, so hopefully the following chapters will have better structure for the exploration. If you don't mind a disturbing experience, I think it's worth playing, it has some unusual ideas and the way the game interacts with you, but you'll have to tolerate some confusion to beat it. Looking forward to more chapters, although it sounds like they won't be ready for a bit. I don't know, overall it's kinda niche, I personally don't hate it, even though it could be done a lot better.
