I don't like giving negative reviews to solo dev projects that show a hint of passion, but there's just not enough to recommend about this game. For what it's worth, I enjoyed what's there, but it only took me about half an hour to play through the game several times, see all endings, and get all achievements. That's how ridiculously short it is.
It's a classic point & click adventure, but extremely barebones at that. It provides the bare minimum of what a point & click adventure is. You have essentially one puzzle and that's it. Maybe two, depending on what you define as a puzzle. There's only one scene in which you have to use inventory items at all, and it's as simple as it gets: take four ingredients and combine them in a bottle. The order in which you put them in doesn't matter. That's it, that's all the inventory interaction you get in this game.
Meanwhile the only proper puzzle is to decide what to do before the climactic story moment. Your actions there will determine which of the four endings you get. Again, it is very simple: did you read the correct book before proceeding? Did you meet a certain character? If yes, you get one ending, if no, you get another.
While the writing was decent and the hand-drawn graphics are very charming, there just isn't enough content to justify a recommended review. The story presents a solid idea, but there's not enough room for it to properly develop. I genuinely like the artstyle here, but there's just a handful of screens to visit, and little to do in them. If you look at the screenshots here on the store page, you've seen almost every screen this game has to offer, and I'm not exaggerating. That really is all there is to it.
The story has you go on a holiday with your sister. You visit a small European town with the ruins of a haunted castle. When you leave the hotel to check out the library and read up on the place's history, a strange old man abducts your sister. Now you gotta find her and get her back!
...and the entire conflict is resolved in a single screen and a single action. That's it, that's the game.
Now of course, for a game that costs 1,99€ at full price, it's to be expected that it's short. But I would have liked at least one proper puzzle, or a story that has slightly more buildup and payoff rather than being instantly resolved in a single scene. Do I regret paying money for this? Not at all. I think this developer has the potential to make a good point & click adventure, and I genuinely like his art. But there's just not enough game here to recommend it to anyone.
Hopefully in a future project we'll see him tackle something more substantial.
