Alright. Far Fishing is done and dusted. This is actually a pretty simple game overall, and yet it does feature a reasonably robust RPG system in the form of a deep skill tree along with some other features that spruce up the experience. Ultimately, your goal is to get to the end of the world and take a look over the edge. It's what every Flerfer wants, lol, and so if you are a Flerfer, this game comes about as close to indulging your fantasies as you might ever see. Take heed. :)

Anyway, how this game functions is pretty simple as mentioned. You are a fishing boat captain, and you are trying to get to the edge of the Earth. Sadly, this can and will take many many years in-game, and so (presumably) when you pass, one of your descendants takes on the mantle and the quest. First off, this is node-based exploration. As you catch fish and earn cash from said fish, one thing you can buy is the ability to unlock the next node along the path to the Edge.
So your first goal is to catch as many fish as possible. Each new area features more valuable fish, but also potentially new hazards that can destroy your ship. Initially, you are just a weak fishing boat that only hold up to five fish at any moment. When your hold is full, that's the end of a turn, and one or more years pass. The first area costs a year to fish in. Each new area has a greater cost attached. You begin with only ten years to do whatever you can do.
This is where the RPG mechanics come into play. Some fish you can catch leave a trail of sparkles behind them. In addition to having a greater sale value, they also give you prestige points, which are this game's version of experience points. Prestige points can be spent on an expansive and expanding skill tree. As you buy an unlock, it typically unlocks new options on the skill tree. Some of these options include the ability to expand the number of years on your journey. As well as offering other buffs such as increased sales value for fish, faster fishing, greater fishing radius, etc...

Additionally, as you progress further, you unlock captain's points, which give you the opportunity to select from three random pre-run buffs on offer. Which can also include similar things to what you will earn in your skill tree. You can unlock up to three Captain's points slots, and so you can potentially start each run with up to three buffs. These are only good for your current run, however, after which the options reset.

Finally, during your exploration, as you sell fish, you earn cash. That cash can be spent on boat upgrades that last for your current run. They expand your fishing radius, your ship's holding capacity, your fishing speed, your hull's resistance to damage, offer extra time to fish in each round, and movement speed (which will come into play with the faster fishies).
With that out of the way, you select the unlocked node you wish to fish in, and then you get to fishing. You are on a timer, and each round ends when you either reach the end of the timer of your hold has been filled to capacity with fish. You will rinse and repeat until you either run out of years available OR you actually finish the game.
Initially, it can seem like you're caught in a bit of a pointless loop, but as you upgrade your skill tree (which is permanent from run to run, btw), your options will increase as will your ability to progress further along the linear node map. Eventually, you WILL reach the end.
Personally, I thought it was an enjoyable gameplay loop with a humorous ending that I appreciated. I enjoyed my time with this game. I spent $1.94 during this current Steam Winter Sale (at the time of this writing), but the $2.99 base price is more than fair for the experience you'll have with this game. It is probably a one and done game for most people, so just take note of that before buying. Anyway, good times were had, and I think it's worth a look.
