As an idle game, there is no idle progression. As an ARPG, there is no action. This game is one of the most barebones cash-grab idlers. Sure, there are ten maps, four characters, and different mobs. It features mostly recycled sprites with the same mechanics, nothing fancy—just attack and defense. Even the loot is a random of 1-4 affixes from a 5-mod pool. I came here expecting a game either engaging or relaxing. Yet it feels like a minimal-effort attempt to find a niche in the idle/ARPG genre.

About This Game
Desktop Heroes is a unique idle RPG designed to be your faithful companion while you work. Set just above your taskbar, this game runs in the background, letting you build a team of courageous heroes, battle monstrous foes, and collect loot; all without disrupting your productivity.
What players are saying
It's neither idle (needs you to intervene in high difficulty) nor manual (you can't afford the time to babysit the whole game). Make. Up. Your. Mind.
Desktop Heroes brings a charming twist to the idle RPG idea by living right on the edge of your screen. It’s fun to glance down and see your little hero fighting, looting, and leveling up while you work. The pixel art and cozy atmosphere fit the concept well, and the overall presentation is clean and pleasant. That said, the progression loop can start to feel repetitive after a while, and the game requires more manual interaction than expected for something branded as “idle.” Inventory management and upgrades need regular attention, and some systems, like shared storage and multiple characters, don’t feel fully meaningful yet. On the positive side, the developer is active, communicates well, and continues to improve the game. There’s clear love behind the project. If you enjoy having a light, idle companion game running in the background, this is worth trying, just go in knowing it’s still growing and hasn’t reached its full potential yet.
