Junkyard Universe casts you as a space pilot salvaging debris across a 2D galaxy, choosing whether to dismantle trash for resources or repair it for trade. You'll negotiate with factions, manage inventory constraints, and uncover story beats about your missing mother amid a primarily narrative-driven experience. Best suited for players who value character-driven sci-fi storytelling over mechanical depth.

What players are saying

▲ Recommended 3 hrs
Not the 5 hours developer promised but I enjoyed most of the time I played. There are some questionable game design choices, like
disabling repair particles altogether if your inventory is full, existence of "Take a walk" button, some "endings", etc. I mostly enjoyed the novel part, but the ending was so brief I was stunned. Gameplay is repetitve in nature but the game finishes fast enough for it to not be an issue. I felt like there's only 1 useful upgrade out of not so many though I haven't tried hard mode, perhaps the situation is different here. Game is probably inspired by Flash titles and brings back both nostalgia and worse than possible default controls. Overall a good game and not that far from being a perfect choice to occupy yourself for an evening.

Little Update: Butterflies

Dear space pilots, this little update is for Valiry and everyone else who wished for real butterflies in the butterfly level. Background information: Originally, it was not possible to repair any living beings in the game. The reason for this was mostly the story. After all, what exactly happens if you repair a living being? Do you revive the original being or create a copy of the being? Is it alive? If you would repair a human, what would happen to their memories? Since you can only repair animals for now, I'll leave the philosophical questions to you. What's your Theory?Kind Regards,Developer Sarah Dressel

Minor Patches: Fixed the Pilot's Mask and Added Hint for Autosave

Hi there, fellow space pilots! Some players noted my mask wasn't fitting quite right, so I finally saved up the dissolve points to have it refitted. It looks much better now. By the way, I was not made by AI but came with a bought asset pack like all the other avatar images, as you can see in the credits. I know it's hard to believe, but even humans make mistakes sometimes. ;)In the previous patch, we also took care of the autosave function. The game is saved automatically every time we reach a station. This was always the case, but since players had a hard time finding the autosave function, a hint about it was added to the resume button. You can find it in save/load game > load autosave. If there is anything else you would like to see improved, let us know.Kind RegardsSpace Pilot Meredith & Developer Sarah Dressel
