Is this game anything new and innovative in the creature collecting idler world? Abosolutely not. Will I continue to keep it running as I throw in all my shooters? Hells yes :3

If you are looking for the familiarity of something that has already been done, virtually no learning curve and the ability to just have something cute up on the screen...then this is just that.

There really is no babysitting needed. This is one of those passive, point collecting idlers that I love. When you do have time to do some clicking, you can spend your points to summon and fuse for the chance to unlock new and rare familiars. Points can also be used to purchase upgrades. When you have a bit more hands on time, there are options to customize your screen and avatar.

But it's all up to you and there is no pressure. Nice little idler to pick up on sale if "hands off" is what you are looking for.

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 596:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ (8/10)

First, a warm congratulations to Cliffa Games, the four-person (!) studio that will be releasing Familiar Findings ("FF") soon. Second, thank you for giving me a free review copy (for a game I would be interested in, too)! I am honestly pleasantly shocked by the polish and detail in their debut title. Familiar Findings is a game in a couple of genres I haven't explored: a cute, creature collector idler. I honestly didn't think it would work, but it did! Familiar Findings is less of a game and more of an application you boot up and leave running in the background of your desktop as you work. As time passes, you gain mana. Mana is used to summon creatures, fuse them, buy decorations, and purchase character customization. Aaaaand, that's it! FF can be as chill or dedicated as you make it. The "goal" is to collect all the different creatures, but I focused on the ones I liked the most. Progression seems fair, and the UI is thankfully adjustable. Of course, the visuals are wonderful. FF is basically a chill Pokémon idler. While I'm not a major idler fan, I urge those who are to check this one out.

Pros:

Art style. COME ON. Look at the store pages and tell me that isn't the cutest damned aesthetic you've seen. It's a cuter Pokémon, basically. I love how each creature has its own details, as well, and variation in expressions, eyes, and head shape. The music is quite soothing, though it does get repetitive after a while. FF is also so colorful!

Creatures. I love the variety, so far. I've unlocked some ghostly blobs, a fox, a cat, a porcupine, a dragon, and a bigger dragon! There are apparently over 100 variations. A small touch the devs added was giving each creature a special reaction when you click on them. For example, I clicked on my cat. One of those feather-waving tools appeared, and the cat tried to bat at it. I clicked on the porcupine, and it began grooming itself. I can rub my ghost's head. And of course, my dragon boy breathes fire.

UI. I was a bit worried how the UI would work on my Mac, but the size of the grimorie can be decreased and enlarged until it fills up my whole screen. The game itself is easy and simple to understand, with only six tabs that are clear and obvious. It's quite nice just to have hanging around in the background.

Mac support! Mac support in the big 2026? Functioning wonderfully with no issues? Yes, please!

Cons:

🟥 Tiny UI issues. For the most part, the UI is 98% wonderful. However, I do have a few quibbles. Once booting up the game, the tiny witch lady in the corner has a dialogue box to tell you directions. I don't believe I could adjust the text box, and it was rather small and cramped. Additionally, I wish there were a way to move the creatures to the left or right side of a screen. I am sadly a Mac gamer, and when I go to my home page, the creatures are resting on my icon bar! However, it doesn't look as "clean" as the store pages. My icon bar is a light white, so it looks like the creatures are hovering awkwardly. To solve this, I enlarged the creatures as much as I could. It's not a big deal for Windows users, however.

A great little Idle game if you're into creature collection. I have to say I don't really enjoy Idle games, but this one was nice. Collect mana over time, then use it to merge creatures to collect them all! There are plenty of upgrades, cosmetics and decorations to buy with mana too, and the achievements are decent. If you're into Idle games, give it a go!
