Infinite Ruins tasks you with building and managing a golem workforce to mine through procedurally deeper layers of stone and ore. As you progress, you'll unlock automation upgrades and new tools that let your operation scale, with each descent yielding rarer resources and better returns. Best suited for players who enjoy watching their productivity compound and who want a low-pressure game to tinker with between other activities.

It's a fun game. - but it does have it's drawbacks. It was interesting at first, because the game hinted at big things where it ultimately failed to deliver anything other than tedium.

Realistically I just can't recommend this, I wish there was a rating in between the recommended and not recommended ratings, because I'd use that, but sadly, there isn't.

I don't usually write anything meaningful, But since I have this on in the background I thought i'd lend my 2 pence and give a proper review for once.

Core Loop:

You have an auto hammer that hits rocks for you. - good, no annoying endless clicking, and not being forced to use an auto clicker.

You break rocks to get resources, those resources can be spent on upgrades. - you get stronger with these upgrades, you can buy little auto drones called golums that do the work for you. I currently have 30 of them breaking rocks for me as of right now. Being on floor 2597 and counting, I'm hands free and completely autonomous.

The hammer has realistically lost any meaningful use, as I literally don't actually need it anymore. - it's become more of a side mechanic than anything and you can use it to speed stuff along if you can be arsed.

That's it.

Now onto the game mechanics:

The prestige system is basic, when I mean basic, it gives you a percentage boosts and that's about it, none of the upgrades aside from making you more OP the more you upgrade, do anything meaningful or give you the sort of WOW, THATS SICK BRO!!!!!!!!!! really. - it's more like, ah, cool, bigger numbers.

The x Numbers just get bigger = more damage = more floors at a faster rate.

Your screen will look like someone's having a rave inside of it, I wouldn't play this if you was epileptic cause you'll have fit. - but if that's your kink, then I'm not stopping you.

Golums. Now these just destroy blocks for you so you can be lazy and stop caring and go do something else while this plays in the background.... you get 8 golums and they each break one of 8 blocks you get in the game. All very simple, all very basic. - 30 will do, no point buying anymore as there's just no point. - this mechanic also loses it's shine and becomes just another resource contributor.

The vortex almost immediately becomes next to useless..

It sucks up resources so you lose them and you can click it to make it go away, it comes across as something that needs priority over everything else to stop you losing stuff. Very early game, I'm talking the first maybe 500 floors, it's an issue.

When you're now 3500 floors deep, it can safely be ignored, as the resource drain is pretty much nothing to worry about, you'll soon get them all back from the pace you're going down.

The treasure golem is completely useless as game mechanic..., Treasure boxes, free upgrades that mean nothing.

Due to you being able to get the resources from the mining. both serves practically no purpose whatsoever because the resources you gain from clicking it is just simply a waste of time.

Runes.

You get these from getting 'rune essence' - which you get from playing the games, you spend these in the prestige tree. more runes = bigger numbers when you upgrade the skill tree.

Every now and then you come across chains that span the floor and you have to click them to get rid of them, no need to worry you just get your golems to destroy the links.

That's it.

Overall..

It's a very basic mining idle game that gets repetitive, the upgrade system is vast with very little meaning, the prestige system is too shallow, the golums just simply stop being useful past a certain point and just serve to be resource grabbers.

I want to add, that I've not even maxed out the skill tree either.

I've just run out of anything to do meaningfully. - there's no boss levels and there's nothing left to do.

I'm now on floor 4119 and nothing at all significant has happened or anything at all that needs my attention. - I've only used 16 runes to upgrade my prestige tree and that's it. - I'm bored already, and a fiver has been wasted to be honest but it's a fiver and I hope the dev goes back to the drawing board and actually works on this game a bit more to flesh it out and make it a lot better than what it is currently. - this feels like an early access game/prototype/an idea in it's early stages other than the finished product because it's just got nothing to it at the minute, it's as basic as basic gets.

The game is hugely underwhelming, not interesting enough, tedious and isn't given me me any incentive to come back and play once I close it. It needs a lot of work to make it more engaging, impactful and meaningful rather than watching numbers get bigger.

It really is the title, infinite ruins and infinitely boring.

As of finishing writing this, I'm now approaching the 5000th floor. - I've paid little to no attention to this game while writing this review and nothing has happened at all. Literally nothing. - Just more resources that I can spend for no reason whatsoever.

I'm really enjoying Infinite Ruins. It starts simple, but gradually opens up with new mechanics, golems, and synergies that keep each run feeling fresh. The progression is satisfying, and discovering new systems is a big part of the fun.

If you enjoy incremental games with meaningful progression and plenty of experimentation, this is definitely worth checking out.

Too basic, too flat, too flashy.

Never decides if it wants to be an idle or an active game. On one hand, any hand-mining looses it's impact very early, on another - there are events that will stop your progress without manual intervention.

Different mechanics do not feel different - does it ever matter if you buy X or Y or Z golem? Not really, they are just sources of damage all, it does not feel like there is any strategy in prioritizing one over another over pure DPS. Now, there MIGHT be - there are some on surface interesting combos to explore - but they are never given time or space to shine. And that's partly because...

Gods, is this game flashy! You end up with screen full of explosions VERY early in the game, before or on your first prestige and that - that is a problem. At that point what does it matter that you unlocked a laser block on top of your fire block on top of your electric flash if you cannot even see it under all the chaos? It takes away any pleasure from engaging with the new mechanic for a breakthrough, because you are locked in constant DPS spam anyway. Same with prestige - a first few seem interesting, but with the increasing chaos they very quickly reduce to "which color DPS do you want?".

Very dissapointing, because it felt quite promising, but crashed over lack of imagination and balancing.
