From my first couple hours of gameplay, it has gone by very well. I found the art style and mechanics quite cool! Mainly brought to the game because it features an ASCII-style world, but I honestly see the retro pixel art style that this game gives.
The background music and sound effects really fit into this retro game feel that I like about this game. It's not super intense, rather slightly calming amidst the utter chaos on my screen, that of which is a load of cool-designed pixel art enemies on a really sick pixel art background!
I think for the price that this game is at, it is really worth it. Haven't had the chance to try out all the worlds yet, but can't wait to get on and do so. There does seem to be quite more content world wise than what I expected going into this, which is cool! From what I can tell, there are 5 playable worlds as of this review, a few locked under certain requirements, but I like the fact I could come on and play the ASCII world along with the base world.
Certain aspects aren't 100% clear to me right away. There are two different currencies you get whilst playing, one called SPX and another yellow coin-looking one. These are these from what I can assume out-of-game upgrades you can get with these currencies that make your later runs easier. I think. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't want to mislead anyone here.
A single issue I had was when I killed one of the mini-bosses in the first world, it dropped its chest within a prop on the map, which unfortunately meant I couldn't grab it, but it wasn't the end of the world. I have so far only made it to what I think is the final boss twice, but have only lost there. However, I did get closer to beating the boss in the ASCII world the run I just had.
One thing I can see is that there are in-game achievements but none actual achievements on steam for this game. I would love to see this added at some point!
Having a cool time with this game though! Because I like the art style, the game direction and the sound design, on top of having no proper problems with this game, I would recommend it to anyone who has a little bit of money and would like to try out a wonderfully built casual roguelike pixel art retro game!
Thank you Devs for this amazing game :]
