Having played around 11+ hours, I'm sitting at the top of all of the 4x4 leaderboards and feel like I can speak to the game. I've also unlocked most of the achievements (I've played plenty of 2048). I like having a good version of the game to play on Steam but let me give some criticism and suggestions...

EDIT - The Dev has continued to update the game to get many things added or fixed. ALL OF THE # ITEMS BELOW HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED.

1. The "Modern" mode is at an odd angle and lacks actual numbers to see your progess easily. You're going off visual 3-D bars that have similar colors at the higher numbers. Honestly, this mode hurt the hell out of my eyes after a while. Either add some numbers or change the colors drastically between numbers.

2. Add a dark theme to the classic 4x4 and 8x8 modes

3. The screenshot button with Steam (F12) does not appear to work with this game

4. Add an option to play without the undo button on Classic mode and have seperate leaderboards for those modes. The undo button is like playing the game on easy mode. ;)

5. Allow us to use the directional pad on a controller. I'm currently using the arrow keys on a keyboard because the analog stick is too easy to accidently make a mistake.

7. $1.99 isn't much to ask but .99 would be better. You can play this game MANY places for free so need to add more features and options if you're going to ask for $1.99. If you can do a lot of the requests that might be asked, I'd glady say $1.99 is more than fair.__EDIT__ This game is worth $1.99.

EDIT - Dev continues to update the game! Great work.

He added Survival mode, Time Trials, and Unmistakable (which is what item #4 above was asking for).

The only outstanding item from my list was a wish for trading cards. This will be up to Valve to allow and really isn't a big deal.

6. Trading cards with badges would be nice. Badges could be numbers going up to 2048. 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, and then 2048 as the foil badge maybe? Or start with 128 and hit 2048 on fifth badge with foil being a 2048 with cool difference.

2048 is a paid version of the free https://gabrielecirulli.github.io/2048/, standalone for the desktop and with controller support. In addition, it features an isometric display mode (featured in the video, and the first screenshots).

I'll go ahead and admit it, this display mode was more than half the reason I bought the game. I really like 2048, and was interested in getting to play with more appealing graphics.

I also was mildly interested in getting the achievements, to "show the world" that I rock at 2048.

Now, the game is more or less a clone of the free version, but the controller support, isometric display mode and achievements may be worth a buck, so why the negative review?

In a few words: because of the poor quality of the game.

For such a basic game, in 2019, it should not matter what machine you run it on, as long as it can run steam. Yet, I found the game to severely lag at times, on a gaming rig (i7-6770HQ, 32GB DDR4 and EVGA GTX 1080 SC).

Worse, I found that the game's logic is so poorly designed that one can predict where the tiles are going to appear (which is not the case with the original, free version): it is always at the opposed edge of the direction you are moving in. I suspect this is done to minimize the impact of the terrible (lack of) optimization, so that instead of having to check the entire grid for free slots, the game only has to check one line. Unfortunately this has serious consequences for the gameplay, and changes the game entirely.

So, unless you want (very) easy achievements, I simply cannot recommend the game. Just go play the online version or try to write the game yourself as a teaching project, it's not that hard and the chances you will do better than this version are really really good.

Simple 2048 game with 16 achievements.

I used this game to get my 20,000th non-restricted achievement.

Besides that, it's not very special and 2048 is already free....
