Yeah no I gotta give this game a thumbs down.

I mean I always hate to do this with indie developers who I'm sure are putting in a lot of work but I gotta be honest. The game just isn't that good.

It's basically a poor mans mobile app lacking microtransactions, for the PC, costing 20 dollars.

You create your own dragon. Cool.

You have a small story about how dragons were wiped out and you need to bring them back blah blah blah so it's an okay story.

And then you get into the mobile app style of gameplay. Go around gather basic resources like stone, wood and charcoal. Build automated factories and let the game play itself. It's super basic too like its not even that intuitive or intricate. And you sit back and wait for your factories to generate enough magic before you can unlock a new area, rinse and repeat. With minor rare instances of combat, a lot of random easy to accomplish quests, and a whole heck of a lot of waiting. The game even continues to play when you get off just like a mobile app so it'll keep generating resources for you when you're not playing. Sound familiar?

The building mechanic is janky and awkward and awful. Unable to choose how to place building. When you place buildings too far away without knowing it they can't reach each other so you wasted resources cuz guess what?? You can't demolish or reposition them at all.

The game isn't advertised as an early access game but boy does it feel like one. And overall it's lacking in a lot of areas like sound effects, better controls, decent tutorial and I could go on.

For 20 dollars it's just not worth it. If you're super desperate to play the game then even still I'd recommend coming back in a year to see if it's made any updates to it's gameplay. But as it is now, it's not worth your time or money.

If you want a more in depth look then please check out the video I put on my YouTube Channel (link below).
Otherwise thanks for reading and I hope I helped some of you out there to spend your money wisely.

A bit rough around the edges... you can't remove, salvage, or rotate, anything you put down. There's a huge focus on utilizing land, but everything placed is final, and is always placed to the up-left of your dragon, at a set rotation.

Still needs a lot of work, and I don't think it was worth 28AU$ at this point.

Seems like an idle/incremental game, that is on a VERY slow burn to automating everything.
I have no doubt the person put a lot of effort into this game, but at this point, it is not worth the price, as a lot of design decisions focused on core gameplay are questionable, such as why is the building placement not utilizing a mouse?

For now, I'm refunding. May check it out in the future

It was just a typical Day in my Lair.
Chilling, relaxing, STEAMing.
Then i heard something at the Entrance of my Lair.
Oh, i hate beeing disturbed and so i went there to have a Look at.
And there it was lying. A small Egg.
From one second to another it burst off and two cute Eyes were looking at me.
A Babydragon. Awwwww.
Fastly it got out of the Rest of the Egg and jumped happily around me.
Shouting just one Word again and again.
Mana! Mana! Mana! Mana! Mana!
And so it began.

Welcome to DRAGONFORGE!

Yes, i now. There are many, many Dragongames out there, but this one is something really new.
And it is special, what means not for everyone.

A typical „Last Dragon“ Background Story, okay that is not new, starts the Game with a nice Intro. You are controlling a Babydragon in SPYRO THE DRAGON Style. Yes, they could be Brothers.
Your World is cursed and there is Fog everywhere. You need something special to reveal all the Fogs. Remember what the Babydragon in my Lair Entrance was shouting?
Yes, Mana! Much, much Mana.

To get this Mana you have to build Buildings of all kind that creates it, that are also connected. You have the Help of many Goblins and together you can rise a little Empire.
Search for ressources and then start the good Work. Your Goblins are also your Tutorial, so listen carefully. DRAGONFORGE has much to do. There are little Challenges, that can be activated, there is many Lore to find and you also need Mana to set them free and there is a big Map to explore…… if you have the Mana.
And here comes the Point. In the Beginning you have to be very patient, because the Places to build your Constructions are rare. So it can take much Time to get Mana to free another Landscape.
But on the other Hand you can collect Ressources or do Goblin Quests to learn the Mechanics of this Game. There are also Enemys to fight on the Map.

The Graphics are really nice and that goes also for the Sound. The DEV put very much work into his Game and i like to thank him inviting me to his nice World.
I have had very much Fun with it and i will continue this Game to get all the Achievements. The Game needs still polishing. It would be nice to be able to rotate the Map. The Enemys feel also a little bit unbalanced. While Skeletons in the Beginning feel like Cannonfodder, other Units feel to strong, while you are not strong enough. But that doesn´t make the Game unplayable, so don´t worry.

DRAGONFORGE is a very nice Game that is not for everyone. I can understand many negative Reviews but also the positive Ones. Yes it is special. You like Dragons, Base Building, Ressources Management and Lores? Then this is for you.

Thank you for reading.
