Fire & Dungeon is another GameMaker Studio asset flip from serial copy+paste infringers, Piece of Voxel. All these guys do is rip off game templates and projects from the Yoyogames/GameMaker Studio marketplace, change the name and a few cosmetic details, and try to scam people into paying for someone else's work on Steam. They have run asset flip scams dozens of times, and this is no exception (just look at their other games on Steam). It's nothing but a cash grab.

This time they've ripped off a basic template for a 2D retro pixel top down "maze in the dark" game with lightweight RPG elements. GameMaker Studio itself is a terrible game construction kit, and this asset flip shows just how bad things can get when templates/tutorials/demos from that construction kit get dumped on Steam as complete games. I'm pretty sure I've played other games based off the same template.

An important note: Piece of Voxel are known asset flippers and have previously taken other developers work and put it on Steam in an attempt to scam gamers and get paid for someone else's effort. An example of Piece of Voxel doing this is Top Truck Driver, which is really "Hill Racing Template", written by the actual developers, Janko Knez. Also, Hoples, which is really "Pixel Adventure 1", developed by Pixel Frog.

Asset flips are harmful to the gaming industry. They're nothing but cash grabs, and they harm genuine indie developers by reducing their visibility on Steam.

In line with dishonest asset flippers, the game was dumped immediately at launch into DailyIndieGame shovelware bundles. Even if this wasn't just an asset flip, it would be garbage. Impossible to recommend.

Hint to developers:
You know that idea you have about the player character being blind or it being to dark to see anything so you have a black screen with maybe the occasional flash of light or little circle of light flitting past randomly? Yeah, the one that saves all the money on special effects in movies? It NEVER WORKS in computer games. No it did not even work there. It certainly did not work here.
I do not recommend buying this. It starts out iffy but quickly decays into black screen without even a bump sound to tell you you found a wall. Brilliant for a game, yes?
