Heliopedia lets you design and populate fictional planets from scratch, combining terraforming, ecosystem building, and creative destruction into a sandbox experience. You can introduce species, sculpt environments with weather events, and watch—or sabotage—your creations develop. The game appeals to players who enjoy open-ended world-building, though current reviews note interface friction and incomplete ecosystem mechanics that may dampen long-term engagement.

Overall I do genuinely adore this game, but I don't think it's worth buying in its current state.

While it's really not an issue in terms of completing the game, one of the core systems in creating self-sustaining planets is completely broken.
You see, the developer (from what I've read in forums/discussions) opted for a realistic system for the Oxygen-Carbon Dioxide cycle and made it so that Trees only consume CO2 (thus creating O2) whilst growing. That means that, once Trees reach max growth, they stop consuming CO2 and practically become useless while Animals continue consuming O2 and producing CO2, resulting in a situation where O2 is depleted and all Animals die.

This isn't a major issue in most cases, as planets are paused when you're not viewing them, and it's not exactly critical to game completion to have a planet in a state of equilibrium. However, I personally find this to be a major design flaw that deserves attention and correcting, as it just leaves the game feeling unfinished imo.

I understand that the developer is also on a tight schedule, so I respect the fact that it has yet to be corrected. I just hope it gets done at some point because I feel it takes a lot from the overall experience.

Had a great time playing this game but there are some little things that can make the gameplay a little annoying.

Firstly let me say the game is a lot of fun. From the cute art style to the soothing music. Making your own little planets really feeds that creativity itch; Its a lot of fun. I wish you could do more with creating the planets though. Like a fully fleshed out game with this game's way of making planets would be awesome. While the creating your planets is fun Heliopedia is primarily a puzzle game. Trying to discover the different combos to get all the plants and critters is fun too if not frustrating at times.

Now my gripes. Later on in the game there are some problems with the equilibrium of the planets. In the game trees and bushes will consume CO2 and produce Oxygen while animals will consume Oxygen and produce CO2. So with the right amount of animals and trees the planet should stay the same right? Nope. For some reason trees do not produce Oxygen anymore if their branches become full of fruit or twigs. Some animals will eat the fruit but not fast enough to ensure enough Oxygen is created. And nothing eats twigs. This means that you have to constantly be pulling fruit and twigs off your tress to make sure everything doesn't die. Also this means that after a while your planet will just be FULL of twigs everywhere. Maybe this is intended but its kinda annoying.
Also dead bodies of animals are really hard to get rid of but i guess you just have to burn those.

TLDR:
Overall fantastic little game totally worth the price, great if you like puzzle games just some gripes about some of the gameplay mechanics.

It's a cute little game, but the inventory management is a real pain. The planets and their surroundings get quickly cluttered and that takes a lot of the fun out of the game. Would be nice if we could delete stuff more easily than dragging it all the way to the sun. The game doesn't feel ready or polished, it seems to have a bunch of bugs here and there as well. Also I was hoping it would be a bit more realistic/educational but it's really more on the same level as Little Alchemy ie. Stick + Bug = Stick bug. It took me two days to make sand, because I thought the logical route would be rocks but no, obviously I needed to make bunnies first.

Hi everyone, here is a small update fixing various issues people were having with the game. Thanks to everyone who reported bugs, and thanks all for your patience with me! Changelog Achievement fix: fixed the terraforming achievement, which used to incorrectly unlock upon clicking on the first planet. Fixed a crash when having a planet with a carrot plant and an animal. Fixed a crash when charging two batteries at the same time. Fixed a bug which made getting the swine impossible. Fixed a bug where the snow man would already have a shawl. Fixed a bug where poop could not be dissolved in water, despite the heliopedia saying so. - rub
