Long story; I'm a professional software developer of like 15 years. I've worked in many different languages and in general because I code so much for work I've really lost that sense of fun and passion I used to have while coding. This game brought that back.
I don't even know how properly to describe it. It's kinda like a more complex cookie clicker but you program the clicker and can get as clever as you'd like about it. It gives me the same satisfaction as a game like factorio while really letting me dig into the mechanics and rewrite the rules of how I'm "supposed" to play.
This game is a must have for software developers imo. Make programming fun again- do it in an environment that actually rewards you for clever, efficient code.
Kind of awesome, a great example of gamification where the player feels like he is just having fun but is actually learning basic programming principles and some basic python. I only wish i could choose from additional programming languages, then i would happily play the whole game again in e.g. c++

Hey folks! 👋 Today is a pretty big day! The Miner Was Replaced, the DLC for The Farmer Was Replaced, is out now! 🥳 Over the past months, we’ve been working on taking the programming and automation of the base game somewhere completely new. Instead of only automating a farm, you can now send your drone into the mines, dig through the world, collect new resources, and solve a whole new set of programming challenges. The DLC adds a completely new section to the unlock tree with new mechanics and problems to figure out. You’ll mine resources like coal and quartz, sort mushrooms, grow rice on clay, work your way through a Minesweeper-inspired challenge, and discover plenty more as you progress. We're really excited that you can finally play it yourselves! ❤️ Alongside the DLC, we’ve also made a lot of improvements, adjustments, and bug fixes to the base game. Explanations have been rewritten, more examples have been added, and navigation between related topics should be much easier. One of the biggest additions is interactive code examples that can run directly inside the documentation windows. We’ve also added a Back button, improved documentation search, and made locked documentation pages explain which research you need to unlock them. Hey everyone We’ve got another announcement for you today: The Farmer Was Replaced is coming to mobile! 🥳 I know programming on mobile sounds weird but Ateo, the studio that made the mobile port, have put an unbelievable amount of work into making the coding on mobile feel intuitive and I was surprised how well it works. ☺️ The mobile version will launch on November 2, the same day as The Miner Was Replaced DLC. We’re really excited to bring the game to phones and tablets and let you write code, automate your farm, unlock new functions, and solve the same programming challenges wherever you are.
