UPDATE (22/11/23) Now has 256 lvls so even better value!
This review stands as a testimony to a lot of things, especially that the pen is mightier than the sword. Enter a dev who is very young, inexperienced, with English not being his spoken language with a barely gets by understanding and lots lost in translation due to nuances only native speakers get. His 1st rodeo and he succeeds in making bad decisions that have him making really bad mistakes that upset his customer base. After 40+ years of being a hard-core gamer gal, started in the arcades on pinball in the 70s and progressed all the way through to major MMOs. I have loved and played all varieties of gaming. To say that my start in Meta Lines was unforgettable would be an understatement!
To his credit the dev listened to my missive about why what he did was wrong and through this whole fiasco has come to understand and appreciate that guides for games are a good thing! He thought about my argument for them and was quick to admit he made a mistake, apologise, try to help make amends and did so in the public domain where everyone could see it. I never expected that at all; but to his credit he admitted and owned his mistake and was willing to be responsible and accountable for his mistake. It takes balls to do this in public and his courage in doing so made me have hope for the younger generation. Thankfully my wielding my pen in the correct manner at Steam Support twice over this matter had them back flipping, admitting their mistake, apologising as well and restoring my guide into the public domain from which it should never have been removed in the 1st place.
As for this game.... For his 1st rodeo I have to say that I am impressed! It is true that there were 7 achieves bugged and broken for some.... once it was pointed out to him along with relevant facts backing up my claims, he understood that the issue was with coding and NOT with the players not understanding how to make the achieves pop for them. He quickly found and fixed the issue and marched out the fix in a matter of hours. This was only a minor issue, and now that it too is resolved I am comfortable with giving my review for this game.
PRESENTATION: Straight out the gate this game was a delight to play. It was well presented with very little to complain about and everything you could possibly want it to be. I live in hope that enough will be sold that trading cards will become a reality for this game. Easy to navigate with a great UI selection and level selection etc.
GRAPHICS: Gorgeous! Vibrant, colourful and you have choices! There are 16 different colour theme backgrounds to choose from as well as a day / night mode for the dots and lines. This means that anyone who has issues with their eyes and / colours can find something here that will make the visuals far more agreeable to their needs.
UI: Easy to use. I love that he put each of the languages the game supports in the list selection as their native speaker would expect to see it written. Everything you could possibly want from the UI is there.... window modes, sound sliders etc. I do however prefer the previous UI to the current one, as I feel that the previous version was way more complimentary to the game aesthetics than the new version.
Music: The stringed instrumentals I find rather dramatic and somewhat "heavy". I would have preferred either a soothing piano or the strumming of a guitar to chill to while playing as they would have set a calming tone. But that is just my personal opinion and preference.
GAMEPLAY: With the dev recently adding 21 new levels there is plenty of bang for your buck with 121 levels to play. I paid only 90 cents for this game, so you definitely get great value for money! And with the dev telling me that he plans to take it up to 200 levels I have to say that he is seriously underselling his game!
The levels get harder as you go, but that is to be expected.... I will let you in on a lil secret.... the dev himself is stuck on lvl 58...... shhhhh! ;) The progression is not an excessive jump in difficulty, but this is definitely only for adults and puzzle lovers. I cannot wait for even bigger and more challenging levels and I am sure anyone who loves this type of puzzle will be just as eager as I am for them to arrive!
FINAL THOUGHTS: A well-presented and polished game that is a joy to play and behold. The dev has been thoughtful, communicates with players and is quick to respond to any issues that arise.... unlike other devs who have and do dump their games on this platform and then give us crickets! I highly recommend to all puzzle lovers to give this game a fair go. Replay ability is high, just like your favourite card or board game. It is cheap and worth every cent even at full price.... the dev should really consider raising the price in my opinion! This game could easily be sold for at least $3 - $5 and when it reaches 200 levels could well be worth paying $7.50. Yes, it is REALLY that good!
