This fits the 'idle incremental' category very well. There is meta progression where you level up six stats, two are capped and the others appear to be unlimited. Gold you earn in-game is used for the level ups and buying troops, so no microtransactions.
The troops feel pretty dull. No big difference between this one or that one outside of magic damage or physical damage. Just pick the highest damage from each category, fill up your 12 slots, and let it go. So, it's not broken, just bland in my opinion. The low-resolution animated troop graphics are nicely done, they just all feel the same when battling.
The price makes it worth a try, love it or not. The game itself is decent for number watchers. It's probably playable on your phone via Steam Link given the landscape UI with large interface elements.
