Well, what an enjoyable and educational 8+ hours of play time I've had with this lovely - and challenging - hidden object game, based on a famous 12th century Chinese scroll painting. The game is a real labour of love by the developer, and free (though I would have happily paid for it).
As with Chinese textual scrolls, the painting is "unrolled" from right to left, with a number of items (people, signs, objects, activities etc) to find in each section. As each item is found, brief information about it (or interpretation of it) is displayed and narrated - I was fascinated by these descriptions, as I felt that they brought the painting and the vanished world it portrays to life. A section does not have to be completed before going on to another one - after completing most of the entire scroll, I had to return to some sections to find the final three remaining items.
Some items to be found are very small and most of the sections are highly detailed. In addition the image of the scroll reflects the state of the real painting i.e. its flaws, repairs, fading colours, joins, etc. The game offers some facilities to help the player to locate items - a zoom function; displaying the scroll in its natural sepia colours or in black & white or in multi-colour; and an indication of the relative horizontal positions of items by their order in the list of objects to be found. It is also possible to give up trying to locate an individual item and instead just mark it as "found", though I did not use this.
In summary this game wonderfully satisfied my love of hidden object games and my (amateur) fascination with history and historical art - my grateful thanks to the developer!
