A hidden-object game set in 18th-century China where players search classical landscape paintings for roughly 600 cats cleverly concealed among historical scenes. The game combines traditional Chinese artistic aesthetics with casual puzzle-solving, appealing to those who enjoy both art appreciation and methodical visual hunts without pressure or time limits.

It should be noted that there are two Catnip Studios on Steam. They are probably the one and the same but one is spelled with a minuscule S while the other has the S letter in uppercase version. I played and reviewed Cats of the Tang Dynasty first which "only" has 200 cats on a scroll.

Cats in the Ancient City of Gu Su was released some weeks before that but it is a bigger game with its 6 areas and overall 600 cats. For some strange reason achievements are given only till you find 500 cats and for the rest nothing (it is as if they didn't want to add more than a total of 100 achievements per game).

But it's fine, these games are characterised by their relaxing gameplay and amazing drawings. Just look at the pictures! You can zoom in which is a must if you want to find everybody. A hint function is also available and it only has a cooldown - no achievement punishment here.

The game is fun to play - it has atmospheric music and moderately chonky cats. There is a counter at the bottom of the screen and once you find a cat a chubby paw quickly appears to ensure the current number is a smaller one. Taking away numbers like taking in food!

Great series! You can find more information on the scroll painting used here:

This is a beautifully presented hidden cats game. The artwork is classical Chinese painting depicting scenes of life in China over 250 years ago, and the cats (yes they are proper cats, not scribbles with whiskers!) are imposed on top, and not always that easy to spot. There are several puzzles to play in this game so you can expect to find about 600 cats over several artworks. The music is classical Chinese and surprisingly soothing. the cats wriggle and meow when you find them, and they purr when your mouse pointer is close by, and you can even tickle the odd tummy or two. Cat paradise!
The whole idea of these games is to relax, take in the lovely art work with its delicate colouring and brush strokes, and enjoy finding the plump little cats hidden away, or simply lounging around and generally enjoying themselves. One of the loveliest hidden cats games I have seen on Steam and easy to enjoy!

Keks- und knackig gesagt...

Es gibt heute keine Rezension. Dafür ein nachweihnachtliches Rezept, falls ihr die Kekse nicht mehr als Kekse essen wollt.

Short said sweet...

Today no review, but an after Christmas recipe, in case you don´t want to eat cookies as cookies, but nice and creamy.

Spekulatiuscreme

Ergibt: 1 Glas (ca. 250 ml)

Zutaten

200 Gramm Gewürzspekulatius oder deine Lieblingskekse
150 Gramm Sahne oder Kondensmilch
50 Gramm Butter weich
2 Teelöffel Spekulatiusgewürz
1 Teelöffel Zitronensaft
2 Teelöffel brauner Zucker oder Honig, Menge nach Belieben

Zubereitung

Gutes Gelingen!

Speculoos cream

Makes: 1 glass (approx. 250 ml)

Ingredients

200 grams of spiced speculoos or your favorite cookies
150 grams of cream or condensed milk
50 grams of softened butter
2 teaspoons speculoos seasoning
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons brown sugar or honey, amount as desired

Preparation

Grind the cookies finely in a kitchen chopper. Add the cream, mix for a minute, then add all the remaining ingredients and mix again briefly to form a homogeneous cream. If you like, you can fold in some coarse speculoos pieces at the end.
Pour the cream into a clean glass and store in the refrigerator. It will become a little firmer there - so take it out some time before eating.

Enjoy!
